classification of bricks on the basic of the criteria is as follow

ACCORDING TO USE

Bricks are sometimes, broadly classified according to their classes

1.common bricks
2.engineering bricks
3.facing bricks
4.fire bricks
5.specials (special shaped)

ACCORDING TO GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

1. first class bricks
2.second class bricks
3.third class bricks
4.over burnt bricks or jama bricks

first class bricks:

These bricks are table moulded and they are burnt in kilns

CHARACTERISTICS:

*A first class brick should be well burnt and regular in shape and size.
*Edges should be sharp and well defined.
*It surface should be smooth, clean and free from cracks
*water absorption should be more than 16/ of its dry weight of water when kept immersed for 16 hours.
*It should produce a clear metallic ringing sound when struck with another bricks.
*IT should have a minimum crushing strength of 10N/MM2
*It should not break when dropped from a height of 1 to 2 meters
*its specific gravity should be 1.8
*it should be sufficiently hard and sound.

USES
*As ballast for rc works.
*For flooring and walling purposes.
*shaped bricks are used in arches ,carvings and arches.

SECOND CLASS BRICKS

These bricks are ground moulded and they are burnt in kilns.

CHARACTERISTICS

*Second class bricks should be well burnt but irregular in shape and size.
*It has a rough surface.
*It is not free from cracks and lumps.
*It does not have a uniform colour
*it has fine ,compact and uniform texture
*it shall produce a ringing sound when struck with another brick
*It should have a minimum crushing strength of 7 N/MM2

USES

Such type of bricks are used in unimportant situation and for internal walls.
THIRD CLASS BRICKS
The bricks are underburnt and are not uniform in size and shape is called third class bricks. These bricks are ground moulded and they ar burn in clamps

CHARACTERISTICS
*A third class brick

When you start you should have put the gummy bear in the water and the other in the plastic bag. The one in the water at the beginning of the experiment had a thickness of 9mm a width of 11mm and a height of 22mm and it had a total mass of 2.59grams and a total volume of around 2178 mm 3 The one in the plastic bag is going to be the constant It massed at 2.53 grams and had a height of 21mm a width of 12mm and thickness of 11mm and a total volume of 2772mm3 . We left ours in the water for 24 hours but the one in the bag did not fully diffuse. Because of the semi-permeable membrane that allows certain molecules to get in such as water. Osmosis allows the movement of water to get past the membrane in a cell so that it may get high concentration to low concentration.…

For the second experiment we did a test for absorbency. We used a graduated cylinder which was filled with 100 mL of water. The paper towel, which was .234 m2, was immersed into the water for 15 seconds. The paper towel was removed from the water and allowed to drip until the drips were 25 seconds apart. At that time, the amount of water that was left in the…

ABSTRACT: The objective of the experiment was to be introduced to working with the lab equipment, specifically heating and measuring, and to be able to create some of the apparatus that future experiments will require. Heating methods used were an aluminum block, a sand bath, and a water bath. The aluminum block heated most quickly while the others were more stable. Regarding the measurement of water, the less volume of water that was being transferred, the less accurate the measurement turned out to be.…

The purpose of this lab was to observe the rate of osmosis and diffusion, as well as the effect of molecular size of the particles on this rate. Part I of the lab was a demonstration of osmosis and diffusion, that dealt with raisins in different liquid environments, each with a different concentration of sugar. Part IV of the lab was using the same idea as the demonstration, by putting objects in different concentrations of a substance; in this case elodea leaves in salt water. In both cases, the objects in a greater concentration of the substance were stripped of their water. However, where there was a little or no concentration of sugar or salt, the objects did not lose their water, and in the case of the raisin, became saturated with excess…

    Osmosis Lab Report

    • 1250 Words
    • 5 Pages

The purpose of this experiment was to test different solute concentrations on the rate of osmosis. Artificial cells were filled with different solute concentrations and placed in water and weighed at equal time intervals to show how the water moves across cell membranes and down its concentration gradient into the lower concentrated area. The weights of the cells were recorded each interval, and then the rate of osmosis was found by calculating the corrected cumulative change in weight. The prediction made was that the cells with the higher solute concentrations would have a higher rate of osmosis and the cell filled with water and placed in 40% sucrose solution would have the highest negative weight change.…
