CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM

The Cardiovascular system consists of the cardio -heart and the vessels that carry blood to all parts of the body.
If this system does not work properly then oxygen, hormones, water, nutrients and wastes won’t reach their target destinations.
5 liters of blood in body.

BLOOD
Blood is a fluid connective tissue and Plasma is the matrix that separates the red and white blood cells and the platelets from one another.
Plasma also transports dissolved substances such as hormones, nutrients, wastes, electrolytes and proteins from one part of the body to another. So, plasma - separates the blood cells and transports dissolved substances.
Hematopoeitic cells are step cells residing within the red bone marrow from which red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are derived.

TYPES:
Erythrocytes are red blood cells.
Transport oxygen from lungs. Smaller than white blood cells. Most abundant cell type in the body.
Leukocytes are white blood cells.
Protect body against infectious diseases.
Transparent, usually stained purples to increase contrast and visibility on slide.
Platelets are called Thrombocytes and are for blood-clotting.
Platelets are cell fragments and smaller than red and white blood cells. When blood vessel is ripped, platelets interact with clotting proteins to create blood clot to temporarily seal gaps in damaged blood vessels to prevent excessive blood loss.

THE HEART:
Beats 100,000 times a day. Serves as a muscular pump by creating a pressure needed to push blood through adjoining arteries.
Heart consists of 4 chambers, 4 valves and septum.
The septum is a wall that separates the left and right chambers.
Upper chamber of heart called atria and lower chamber call ventricle.
Left and right chamber separated by septum.
Heart valves ensure one-way blood flow from one chamber to the other.

THE CARDIAC CYCLE:
