UNIT 1: INVESTIGATING HOW BUSINESSES WORK
Activity 1: Investigate what a business is and what businesses do (30 marks)
RESEARCH (8 hours maximum)/WRITING-UP (4 hours maximum) – deadline 11 January 2013
Full details are given in the Controlled Assessment assignment brief. This is a help sheet based around this. As you will see, there are 5 tasks to Activity 1. One is the Bibliography and this should be done as you go along.
You will be given a “Research Folder” in which to put all your research and rough notes. This will be checked by your teacher and you can act upon their feedback.
After your research you will be given timed sessions to write up the tasks. You cannot go over this time – this is why it’s called a “controlled assignment”! You cannot hand it in, get it marked and then improve it. You only have one “go” so make sure you follow the teacher feedback given on your research! Here are the first 2 tasks. After these 2 tasks (4 hours research) you will have 2 hours to write them up. This work will be kept safe until the remaining 2 tasks are complete (i.e. - 4 more hours of research and 2 more hours to write them up). This gives 8 hours research in total and 4 hours writing up. Once all the 4 tasks and the Bibliography are complete you will be given a final mark out of 30 for this Activity.
BIBLIOGRAPHY –This is list of all the books, people, internet sites, company documentation, etc. that you have used. Create a new document called “Bibliography Activity 1” and keep this up to date. At the same time, print any evidence off you think will be useful and keep this in your research folder. It will be your “appendices”.
