AO1 Part A
Produce a comprehensive description which shows an in-depth understanding of health and well-being
In order to complete AO1 (part A) you will need to produce evidence UNDER THE FOLLOWING HEADINGS: What is Health?
In this section you should begin by including your own opinion of what health is. We can often think we understand and know what the word ‘health’ means however when asked for a definition of our own it can be difficult to articulate what we mean. However it is crucial that you include your own definition (5 lines) Positive Definition of Health
These definitions concentrate on health rather than ill health. In this part you will need to look at how individuals can remain in good health, such as how they can achieve a healthy weight, keep active, lead a healthy lifestyle (including avoiding use of substances such as alcohol, drugs & cigarettes. These definitions are negative in that they view health as an absence of illness or disease. In this part you will need to look at how health is viewed more so as a machine – if its broken it must need fixed. Briefly discuss how an individual could become ill, what factors might increase their risk of illness. (1 page) Use this web link to help you construct this section:

The word ‘holistic’ comes from ‘whole’. A holistic concept of health considers the whole person rather than just the separate aspects of health e.g. Physical +Intellectual + Emotional + Social +Spiritual + Mental = Holistic Health In this section you need to take each of the aspects of health as a heading and elaborate on how it can impact on an individual’s health.
