OMNI DIRECTIONAL STEERING

This topic involves the development of the existing steering mechanism in cars. The objective of the omni directional steering mechanism is to achieve the four steering modes.
1. Two wheel steering (Only front wheels are steered )
2. Four wheel steering (Front and rear wheels are steered)
a) Normal mode (direction of rear wheels is opposite to that at the front)
b) Crab steering mode (Front and rear wheels are in the same direction)
c) Zero turn radius mode (Front wheels turn inwards and rear wheels turn outwards; enables the vehicle to take a 360® turn in its place)

Vehicle equipped with this steering mechanism has excellent off-road capabilities and is also highly manoeuvrable in congested city conditions supported on front axle so that they can swing to the left or right for steering.This movement is produced by gearing and linkage between the steering wheel in front of the driver and the steering knuckle or wheel. The completearrangement is called the steering system. The steering system essentiallyconsists of two elements- a steering gear at the lower end
