A Discovery I Have Made
A discovery I have made in my life is that making mistakes only makes you a better person. Normally when someone makes a mistake, it is because that person is inexperienced in whatever they are attempting to do, and they are doing it improperly. When we make mistakes we are hopefully learning a very important piece of information, what not to do! Life is trial and error, we do things wrong and hope we do it better next time.

There are many examples of myself making a mistake and in turn never doing it again. Usually when a mistake is made, I am very cautious not to recreate that mistake. About a year ago, I was driving home from my job. I was tired from my day at work and couldn't wait to get home. As I was driving along, a car in the adjacent lane decided he would rather be driving in my lane. So, without signaling, he quickly switched lanes. As he did, I hastily hit the break in order to put some distance between my car and his. I did so without looking in my rear-view mirror to see the driver behind me seemingly tailgating me. Unfortunately, the driver behind me did not stop quickly enough and plowed into my rear fender. From that day on, I have never pressed the break without first looking in my rear view mirror to see who is behind me. I assume many others have had a similar experience, and years later are still very cautious of cars driving behind them.

Another example I can recall is a day in the stockroom of Jcpenney's. On this fine day, I was not working the register as usual. I was instead in the stock room opening boxes, cutting up the boxes, and crushing those boxes in the box crusher. After an hour or so, the crusher was looking as though it was a bit to full. As it was, their was no one working stock that night besides me and my fellow cashier, so we made a decision to empty out the box crusher. After reading the directions numerous times, it sounded all too easy. Crush boxes, tie up crushed boxes, and put the bail of

In the book Being Wrong by Karthryn Schultz, wrongness, or “err” as Schultz puts it, is explained and exposed as being a part of our everyday lives. There are many reasons for our wrongness which most people don’t recognize. These include trickery of the senses, Confabulation, or making thing up even if we don’t know we are, mistreating evidence, societal influence, prior beliefs, and the need to feel certain. These mistakes may seem detrimental to learning and understanding. However, being consciously aware of these mistakes can allow for major discovery, deeper understanding of the truth, and finally an overall method to advance human thought. I think that wrongness is vital to help us learn and change as long as we become aware of our mistakes to allow us to adapt and have the ability to make more logical choices based on truth.…

In conclusion, Lewis Thomas was correct when expressing the reality of mistakes in life. Everything transforms from mistakes to successes. This is partially because people hate to be wrong. It frustrates them and makes them want to improve. By learning from past mistakes, the process of trial and error presents opportunities to achieve. However, achievement cannot be made without utilizing the key step of the process, which is the move taken after the mistake is made. Like Edison, people everywhere should learn from their mistakes and use them to channel…
