November 22, 1963 is a day which will always be a dark day in United States history. Those that were alive on this day will always remember where they were when they heard the news that President John F. Kennedy had been shot. Children came home from school to find their parents watching television and crying, people were stunned and shocked. For those that do not know what happened that day, let’s take a trip back in history to that fateful day. President Kennedy had arrived in Dallas, TX at Love Airfield and was to take a motorcade through town on his way to a speech. One of these issues was the Mafia and its imposing pressure on parts of the country. To accomplish this President Kennedy made his brother, Robert Kennedy, the Attorney General. Robert Kennedy continued a valiant fight to take down the Mafia by any means necessary. Kaiser tracked the administration’s vendetta against organized crime and the numerous Kennedy-era assassination plots (Cook). The Mafia did not like anyone meddling in their business and had to find a way to stop this. Robert Kennedy himself even suspected that the Mafia was involved in his brother’s assassination. When Robert received the news that his brother had been shot, he immediately assumed that the Mafia had a role in it. According to Talbot, “The President’s brother quickly concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, the accused assassin, had not acted alone. Later R.F.K. ordered aides to explore a possible Mafia connection to the crime (Talbot).
