Scientific Method What is the scientific method? Who uses the scientific method and why are we interested in using the scientific method? First off the scientific method is a procedure consisting of systematic observation, measurement, experiment, formulation, testing, and modification of a hypothesis. Everyone from scientist, mathematicians and even you can use the scientific method. We are interested in using the scientific method because we can solve problems or answer scientific questions. The first step in the scientific method is making an observation. Most observations are inspired by what we see in the natural world, so we ask questions. For an example; many are interested in space because there is so much to …show more content…
This is an educated guess about what will happen or how things will work. One thing you want to remember is to state your hypothesis in a way that you can easily measure, and help you answer your original question. I like to cook so I would make a hypothesis about whether or not an ingredient would enhance the flavor of my food or not.
The fourth step in the scientific method is to test the experiment. This will determine whether your hypothesis is supported or not. You want to conduct a fair test by making sure that you only change one factor at a time while keeping the other conditions the same. Another reminder is to repeat the experiments several times to make sure that the first results weren’t just an accident. Now when I cook food, and the ingredient makes the food taste horrible, I don’t mess around. I try something else right away, because experimenting with food can become expensive. The next step is to analyze your data and draw a conclusion. Here you will collect your results of the experiment and analyze them to see if they support your hypothesis or not. Most people will find that their hypothesis was not supported and construct a new hypothesis based on what they already learned. Even if your hypothesis was supported, many will test it again to make sure it wasn’t a
