(RO message on 3rd March 2010 to all academic staff refers) An important part of the assessment of this subject is a discipline specific scenario/case study analysis or report. This will assess the student’s ability to identify and analyze an ethical issue in the student’s own discipline area and thereby increase awareness of ethical issues in the student’s own research or professional area, their impact, and how to recognize, avoid or deal with them. Because this is a discipline-specific assignment, and will be researched and written from the perspective of the student’s own project or professional area within the discipline, each student’s assignment will be graded by their Chief Supervisor. Your involvement as Chief Supervisor is very important to ensure fair and appropriate grading. However, to ensure a common approach to grading and alignment with the academic level and intended learning outcomes (ILOs) of the subject, please read and follow the points below about this assignment, its submission and grading. For grading, please use the grading table supplied. 1. 2. The work should present a coherent and detailed written critique of a real case, or a description and analysis of possible scenario from the student’s discipline area. The submitted report should be ~1,500 words, and detail how such a case or scenario could or did occur, which ethical principles were ignored or contravened, the harm that could be or was caused at individual, profession, business and/or society levels. The case or issue can be suggested by you as Chief Supervisor or by your student, but you as Chief Supervisor should approve the student’s choice - and you will grade the work. The assignment should be submitted to you for grading by 6th June 2013. The student must reference the work using a consistent and acceptable format for your…
