Donald Halls’ “A Hundred Thousand Straightened Nails” is a symbolic presentation of the decay of New Hampshire the author uses the life of Washington Woodward to show the pointless existence that is experienced in a place as lifeless as New Hampshire. He uses the contrast of his own opinion and the beliefs of Woodward to show how after a while it is impossible to escape a pointless mindset. Washington finds joy in discarded relics such as old nails, and wood, and finds simple joy in simple life. He settled on life, in his lifeless town and spent his life with his animals, his stories, his beliefs and his box of “A Hundred Thousand Straightened Nails.”(Hall)…
2. Patient was an 85 year old male with a long history of benign prostatic hypertrophy. He was admitted and scheduled for a transurethral resection of the prostate. However, the night before surgery, he fell out of the hospital bed and fractured his right hip (right femoral neck). This required an unexpected trip to the operating room for open reduction and internal fixation of the fracture. While in the operating…

I on the other hand struggled with making friends, fitting in, and just adjusting to this new class. Caesar was influenced by Cathedral and Multrey to force Pancho Morrison into giving up his bottom bunk as a way of showing dominance and letting “him know who rules”(Cathedral, 77). Similar to how they convinced Caesar I was also convinced by my friend Gabe to bully a Chinese boy named Sam. I don’t blame my friend as much as I blame myself for carrying out all the verbal and physical abuse that we caused him. I can’t remember if I did it to seem cooler in front of Gabe or to show how tough I can be, but all I know is that I would regret it later on. During History class my teacher called out Gabe and me to report to the dean’s office. As we were leaving my teacher held the door open with the look of disgust and shame, I already knew what this was about, considering Sam wasn’t in the room. I was considered one of his better students and he would never look at me the same. The dean didn’t call our parents. Instead he had us apologize to Sam and gave us a warning that if either one of us continued harassing Sam that he would get the cops involved. I could try and play the “I was just a kid” card, but I knew what I was doing just like Caesar did when he assaulted Pancho. Ever since that…
I witnessed my “friend” bullying a freshman for the first time. I stood there not stopping my friend from verbally bullying him. After a while my “friend” started to push the freshman around aggressively. I thought to myself if I defend the freshman my friend would tell me something. But I had to do it because it was wrong what he was doing. I quickly pushed my friend away from the freshman and told him to stop and leave. But he didn’t listen and kept telling me to move. We both argued and then he got frustrated and walked away. I went with the freshman to the deans because he told me its not the first time he has done this. At that moment I knew our friendship wouldn’t ever be the same. I remained committed to the idea despite the consequence of losing my friend. I stood up for what I believed was right. I even prevented from a bully to do harm to others.…
The fight happened just after my P.E. class. We were all in the locker rooms, (me in the boy’s locker room obviously) and we had just finished changing. Another of the boys by the name of Bryce, was the one who gave me the most trouble. He had started ramming me into closed lockers by shoving me with his shoulder, using all his force to push me into it. Each time he did that, he backed away and got farther away before he darted towards me again. Finally, I had grown tired…
1. Suppose you’re in a conversation and the person you are with claims to know that God exists (or that God does not exist—it’s up to you). What does such a knowledge claim amount to? In other words, what sorts of conditions have to be satisfied for such a knowledge claim to be legitimate? Do you think such a person could meet those conditions? Why? Be sure to discuss not only the classical model of knowledge, but also the challenges posed to it by basic beliefs and Gettier counterexamples. (Be sure to give a Gettier-type example and explain its relevance to the knowledge issue.)…
“Scouts of Honor” was a video that shocked me to know that the largest youth movement in the country, in which values are treating everyone equally and standing up for what you believe in, would ban gays to be a part of their organization. One in five boys in American are a boy scout. In Petalima, California, troop # 174, a twelve-year-old boy by the name of Steven Cozza started an anti-gay stand by the name of “Scouting for all”. They held petitions and set up stands at local grocery stored. They also went to San Francisco to the gay freedom day to take a stand. Steven chose to do this because of the expulsion of gays from the scouts. The New York City Police Department even opted to help in their efforts when they heard about what Cozza was doing. Cozza spoke about the increased suicide rates of teen who are searching for acceptance and trying to figure out why society is so against the homosexual community. It was justified that a gay man as a leader of a boy-scout troop would in turn be a child molester. Even the Boy Scout Association of America stated that studies show gays are less likely to be child molesters that heterosexuals. In the case against Tim Curry, the Supreme Court ruled that the Boy Scouts of American was a private institution and they could ban gays from their organization if they so desired. The boy-scout handbook teaches you to love everyone, not just certain people. Steven showed this contradiction to Americans at his rallies. Scott Cozza, Steven’s father, was forced to resign at Assistant Scout Master of Steven’s troop because f his involvement in the “Scouting for All” campaign. The banning of homosexuals from the boy scouts defeats the puproses and teachings of the boy scouts morality as a whole. In 1999, James Dale won a court case against the Boy Scouts of America stating that they were a public association and that they couldn’t discriminate on gay members. In 2000, the Supreme Court overruled their decision and stood by…
Macbeth and Banquo share many similar characteristics: they are both courageous and valiant leaders on the battlefield, widely respected by the men they and lead and they are both loyal to the King and patriotic to Scotland. Shakespeare introduces the two men through the Captain who describes their courage and heroic performance in the face of the enemy, ' ...Like Valour's minion carved out his passage / Till he faced the slave... ' (Act 1, Scene 2). Macbeth has killed rebels, captured the traitor, obtained the ransom money for his King and negotiated a peace treaty; he is a ruthless yet honourable man with a capacity for humanity.…
Constantly being surrounded by people and animals created a hectic lifestyle for my family and me which has encouraged us to manage our time better as we got older. After we left private school for public school, I experienced the most difficult year of my life. In addition to being “the new kid,” I was bullied. At the time, I did not realize what it was because the bullies acted like my friends, but after they attacked me during lunch—pouring milk all over my hair—the janitor told a teacher who intervened. The principal interrogated me, making it appear as though it was my fault for being bullied,…

Since I have been a senior, I have been through a lot of troubles through out my year so far. I am constantly doing work to make sure I pass senior year, I’m trying to set myself up for college, and I’m most of all worried what I want to do with my future. There is a saying, “your senior year will be the easiest year you will have in high school”. It’s really not; it is the hardest year you will have in my opinion.…
One strenghts of our production was the use of a large varity of shots through out our advert. Our advert starts off with the main character in medium long shot and ends on a close up of football boots. We have used shots like long shot, over the shoulder, low angle shot and others. We wanted to create an advert that has verity of different shot to show the football boots and make it the main protagoinst, to grab the audince's attention. Our intended idea was to attract the audince eye and i think we have achieved the goal as the football boots was iconic product that stood out. We also used persuasive techniques like rewards, For example the football boots 'makes you the best player out in the field'. If you don't buy the football boots than you will never be the player you dream off.…
