Toys for Tots
Preparing for the Toys for Tots Dance Three years ago my friend Amy and I were looking for a way to bring customers into Behm’s Sawdust City while helping the community. After about a month of throwing ideas around Amy came across an advertisement for Toys for Tots, and we decided that this would be a great way to bring people in and help the community. Little did we know that it would be a huge success! Every year we have had to become more organized. The first time we get together we decide on what band we are going to try and book and where we are going to ask for donations. Next we split up and go to different businesses and individuals that have donated in the past or may want to donate this year. Finally we advertise for the dance and start looking for volunteers to help. Amy and I meet in the beginning of July to start organizing our Toys for Tots Dance. The first time we meet we make a list of bands that we would like to play that night. We do this by sitting down and brainstorming all the bands we have heard or have heard good things about. We then look over our list and pick out our three favorites, and we list them in the order that we will try to contact them. If the first band has prior commitments we still have two more bands to choose from. After that we take last year’s donor list and make sure the business still is in business, and we add any new businesses that may want to donate something. Then in September and October we go to each business or individual on the list and ask if they would like to donate something to either be raffled off or for a new unwrapped toy. Most places that we go donate something that they sell or a service they offer. We then raffle them off either in a silent auction or on the paddle wheel. Every dollar we raise we use to purchase toys. This year Amy and I decided that we would try to receive more donations by mailing out letters to businesses that we have not contacted before and that we do not have

People from the community and surrounding areas could welcome the chance to pull together and host a Christmas feast and auction. Dinners could be purchased at a nominal fee for individuals and families. Businesses from the area could be encouraged to join in and support the cause by donating items to auction after dinner and then we could hold a Christmas dance. Getting a local news personality to come in as auctioneer would definitely buy the event some mention on our local stations resulting in advertising the event. Because the XYZ Corporation has been meeting the needs of the medically indigent for three years now are we are recognized as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization we could hold a joint fund raising activity with one of our affiliates such as United Way of America (Martin, 2001). By conducting our annual donor renewal campaign through our volunteers efforts our attempt would be to reach as many of our existing donors either through our mailing list, friends, program members, local business, or by telephone solicitations who may which to make contributions and are in need of reducing their taxable income (Martin, 2001) .…

Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

Many families in the North Texas Region live day by day not knowing when their next meal will be and are unable to provide a Christmas that every family deserves. This year the club I play for, Tejas Volleyball Club, is making it possible for all families to experience the joys of a holiday so important. Tejas notices the stress on families that struggle with money this time of year. We realize Christmas should be carefree holiday that all families need to enjoy together with a Christmas dinner and gifts; this is exactly what we will provide this year to thirty six families in need. Every team at Tejas has a family they will “adopt” for Christmas. Each team has twelve to fifteen players, this will result in an abundance of gifts and food donated…

Throughout high school, I have been a member of my school's branch of KEY Club. KEY Club has been an excellent club to be a part of, as it has allowed me to take part in various activities in my local community. As a member, I have been a part of promoting all our fundraisers, such as food and shoe drives, and have been a viable member known for my high standards of excellence and dedication. From my membership in this organization, I was inspired to initiate my own service project in order to play a bigger role in the success of KEY Club. In June of 2016, several students and I started collaborating to initiate our own returnable can and bottle drive. Since then, we have went to several community events and neighborhoods, as well as the local…
