Time After Time" is a song by American singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper, released as the second single from her album She's So Unusual. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart on June 9, 1984,[1] and remained there for two weeks. Worldwide, the song is her most commercially successful single after "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", and reached number three on the UK Singles Chart and number six on the ARIA Singles Chart. The Rolling Stone and MTV's 100 Greatest Pop Songs ranked it at No. 66.[2]

"Time After Time" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 1985 Grammy Awards.[3] The song has been critically acclaimed, with Scott Floman, music critic for Goldmine magazine, describing the song as "gorgeously heartfelt" and "one of the decade’s finest ballads".[4]

The song, which is still played frequently on adult contemporary radio,[citation needed] is known for its numerous covers by a wide range of artists, including an instrumental version by Miles Davis on his 1985 album, You're Under Arrest. An acoustic version was sung by Lauper on her 2005 album, The Body Acoustic. In this version, Sarah McLachlan provided backing vocals. The version with Sarah McLachlan was used in Ugly Betty season 3 finale. Cyndi Lauper has performed the song live with Grammy Award winning singer Patti LaBelle twice in 1985 and 2004 and with Grammy Award winning singer Sarah McLachlan at the American Music Awards of 2005 and has also performed the song with Grammy Award winning rapper Lil' Kim in 2009. A jazz version by Tuck and Patti on their A Gift of Love album is a well received

Time is more than just a number that sequentially increases at all time, it is its own individual dimension. No matter how much people try to stop, whatever people experience, good or bad, time will continuously move with nothing bringing it to a halt. In the short story by Ray Bradbury, “A Sound of Thunder,” a tour guide, named Travis and his company, Time Safari Inc. believed that they can manipulate and control time for entertainment to make money. When a man named Eckles stepped off the set path in the past and changed the present of which they left, he is killed and blamed for the change. The change of time, which was the downfall of the company, happened because of the tour guide, Travis, and the company, Time…

The poem 'As I Walked Out One Evening' consists of three separate speakers: the lovers, the clocks and the narrator. Each speaker represents a different measure and attitude towards time. The lover’s song paints time to be conquerable and ignorable – no more than a passing annoyance that they are outside of. The soliloquy of the clocks demonstrates time as a product of society, there to keep its subjects in line, and ultimately a ruling force. Finally, the narrator speaks of love as being outside of both of these things. Time is a constant flow than brings change and opportunity, and any claim to deny or control it is an illusion.…

Assumptions are that the people were left hungry and the leaders did not take sufficient action to make sure that the people were ok to survive in such conditions. In The Embers and the Stars by Kohák the intersection of time and eternity is expressed. Kohák has focused on "natural" time, which is to say that time is not just what is expressed by a clock, or with a series of numbers on a clock. "It is, rather, set within the matrix of nature's rhythm which establishes personal yet non-arbitrary reference points." This means that time is not measured in seconds, minutes, or hours but by personal existence and experience. These "reference points" are experiences in your life that are meaningful and you help spatially distinguish points in time. Time as we know it is explained by Kohák as a "construct imposed upon nature's rhythm, subordination and ordering it". He does say that it is a useful construct, but as for the theory of relativity time does not hold up.…

Kenneth Slessor constantly reminds us during the first part of the poem that time itself cannot be slowed down or stopped; it is just a force that never stops or runs out. He seems pessimistic about the subject of Time though, as he constantly keeps repeating himself which is why he chose the title for the poem as, ‘Out of Time’ because no matter what, Time will never stop for anyone or anything.…

“5 More Minutes” by Scotty McCreery talks about how sometimes you just love a moment or a person so much that you wish you could have little more time where you were, what you were doing with, and who you’re with. Starting when he’s eight and he’s fishing then his mom wants him to come in and eat supper. He wants five more minutes to keep fishing because it’s their version of “the good stuff” or “the good times.” Throughout the song, time progresses all the way until he’s in the hospital with grandpa who’s dying. This is the moment that the song was written about, even though the memory isn’t happy, he just wished he had five more minutes. “5 More Minutes” has a theme that you’ll always want to savor the good times, but you can’t, and that…

At one time when we were together I used to think that time couldn’t ever part us. That the love we once had was forever eternal and that we could fulfil anything. We had the most magical times as if everything was shut in our lives. The world was right. I remember staying up for the stars to glisten in yours eyes, with you wishing in the sky could just suck us up and take us to a new dimension where it was only us forever and ever. Where nothing could make us leave one another.…

    History Repeating Itself

Over the span of American history about twelve U.S. presidents were either assassinated, survived an assassination attempt, or died in office. History repeats itself every time a president dies, or almost dies, in office. “There are only patterns, patterns on top of patterns, patterns that affect other patterns. Patterns hidden by patterns. Patterns within patterns. If you watch close, history does nothing but repeat itself. What we call chaos is just patterns we haven't recognized. What we call random is just patterns we can't decipher. what we can't understand we call nonsense. What we can't read we call gibberish…” - Chuck Palahniuk. Presidents have died again and again and every time people react as if it has never happened before. Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was assassinated by the evasive John Wilkes Booth on April 14th, 1865. Lincoln’s assassination affected the nation greatly. Not only Lincoln’s, but John F. Kennedy’s assassination also affected the nation and impacted American lives. John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln were the most famous assassinations in American history. Ronald Reagan survived an assassination attempt in 1981 and it shocked the nation just like it had in the past. The way people react to losing a powerful leader, such as a president, will never change. History is just a pattern that keeps repeating. The quote, “So the story of man runs in a dreary circle, because he is not yet master of the earth that holds him.” said by Will Durant, is felicitous and concludes the topic “What have you seen repeat itself again and again as if it never happened the first time.” perfectly.…

The events of the past continue to influence and shape the present and the future, particularly the decade of the 1960s, which was a time often called the decade of discontent because of demonstrations against the Vietnam War. Americans were divided between patriotism and the desire for peace. Some agreed with President Johnsons involvement in Vietnam for the common goal of eliminating communism, others became entranced in the peace movements that usually involved mass protests. For those who protested American involvement in the longest war they ever took part in, songs of the times were an inspiration, particularly songs of Bob Dylan, whose influential songs often protested what many considered the wrongs of society. The Times Are A-Changin, one of Dylans biggest hits that expressed the feelings of the younger generation, has been called an anthem for the protest movement.…
