With the rapid advancement of technology, it has deeply engaged to the modern lifestyles of humans, which refer to ‘technology is the current world’. With regard to this, there are social concerns to the effect of the power of technology in far future in affecting the behaviour of humans. Ray Bradbury discovers this principle in his short stories of ‘The Veldt’, ‘Zero Hour’, and ‘Marionettes Inc.’. The three stories are about how the creation of humans, the imagination of individuals and the conception of robots outlines the concerns of technology in the future to be raised. This three short stories perfectly described of how the invention of technology in the future has raised the social concerns towards the behaviours of the individual.
This is because with the rapid advancement of technology, people tend to rely on the use of technology in the near future, therefore, face-to-face communication is reduced. This can be seen in ‘The Veldt’, where the children have substituted the affections from their parents with the nursery room, and thus, the room eventually becomes more important than their own parents. Therefore, the social concern is raised in this matter where with the ‘nursery room’ machine, the children in the future is likely to develop a communication gap with their parents. Besides that, in story of ‘Marionettes Inc.’, the creation of a clone robot to own-self has raised concerns that in the near future, there will be people who create their own clones because they do not want the annoyance from the other half, which shows disrespectful to the marriage. This is seen where Brailing Two is created by Brailing in order to replace him temporarily as he wanted to go to Rio and to escape from his clingy wife which he does not love, “When I return from Rio, Brailing Two here will go back in his box.”. This shows that with the technology of robot, the relationship between married couple in the near future will definitely be affected. The rising advancement of technology, and more in the future has caused the individuals to be increasingly dependent on the usage of the equipment. For example, in ‘The Veldt’, the Hadley’s were all completely dependent on the machine that they had in their Happylife Home which this has brought the family numerous convenience where the family need not to do anything. This has resulted in the over reliance to the technology as in the story in the future, the individuals in the future will not know the technique of doing their own stuffs, like tie their own shoelace, "That sounds dreadful! Would I have to tie my own shoes instead of letting the shoe tier do it”. This has developed the irresponsibility and dependency of the individuals in the near future towards technology. Moreover, in ‘Marionettes Inc.’, the creation of Brailing Two has evidenced that the irresponsibility of Brailing creates his clone robot in order to escape from his wife for a trip which is unethical to the marriage.
