The Qualities of Good Leadership
No matter where human beings are gathered in numbers, there will always be a need for leadership. From school captains to Army Generals, civilian government officials to captains of industry and academic leaders of thought as well, lead from the front. Whether it is in the schoolroom, on a battlefield, or in governmental deliberations, people who are natural leaders always have the same qualities of quality character and an optimistic outlook.
We begin with a leader’s personal qualities, for it is these that count for the most, in other words their personality or charisma. A leader, in any specialty, must possess certain characteristics to be respected. That leader’s judgment must be trusted and he or she must be able to evoke devoted from those that are being lead. So the, the first quality of a leader is the ability to win over the hearts and minds of whom he or she will lead.
Secondly, a leader must possess an intellectual mind that is capable of assimilation what is right and true and exert this control over others. It is of no use; regardless of the other personal qualities or intellectual prowess, if the “leader” lacks the initiative and will to lead from the front and rally the troops. A leader must also have the power to focus the troops to most pivotal point for greatest effect. Furthermore, a leader must possess character, strength of will, clarity of mind, tenacity and determination to get the mission accomplished.
Troops will not follow a weak leader and believe me, they can sense on a mile away! Thus a sense of fearlessness and optimism are two essential qualities of a good leader. One must also be a good judge of people to select appropriate key supervisors from the subordinates. A leader must also show and practice such virtues as self-control and temperance, of not only one’s body, but also of one’s mind, refined and sharpened like finely tempered steel.
