The King Corn movie, which takes place in Greene, Iowa, is a dialogue based on the topic of corn and how corn has an effect on our daily lives. The two “star” individuals, who go by the names of Ian and Curtis, after graduating from college decided to find out about this rumor of corn causing a short life-span. The two curiously decide to move to Iowa and commence their adventure to find out if this rumor is actually true and educate others how corn has infiltrated the food most Americans eat at this present time. With this documentary, Ian and Curtis are able to let the truth be known to all who watch the film.

an acre from him in order to cultivate corn. Upon their arrival, the two meet up with an agriculturalist (Steve Macko) that informs Ian and Curtis how the carbon in his hair originates from corn. They both look at each other with confused and amazed looks. Steve Macko goes on to say, “Corn is being used in materials into the foods we use ubiquitously!” Being educated on that point, the two take a trip to the grocery store to find out that many of the products sold contained some form of corn.
The documentary revealed some interesting points.
One main interesting fact I found to be is the misleading nutrition facts of corn and how corn syrup is not recognized as corn syrup but as fructose syrup etc. etc. etc. Along with that corn syrup is one of the nation’s leading diagnoses of diabetes and obesity. I feel we would be able to somehow broadcast the truth about how the food Americans eat today not only shorten your life-span but also cause disease, complications, and eventually add more bills to the list. Mentioned in the documentary, farmers used ammonia with the rapid growth of corn fields, which I found interesting. When it came out to finding out how much the government would contribute to the cultivation of each acre in astonishment it was a contribution of $28.00 per acre! Another interesting point, out of half of the crop will be turned into meat that we see in most grocery stores and 490lbs of corn will become sweeteners. Also I believe that Melvin W. Elvis was the first owner of a tractor. Present day the town of Greene, Iowa cultivated 2 trillion corn plants, the largest corn crop in American …show more content…
History.
Once the crops were grown to maturity, Curtis and Ian decided to take a taste test and the corn was quite disgusting.
The professor explains how it’s a raw material not edible, and be processed first which went into most foods and sugars. I believe there are good alternatives to corn-fed meat and fluids. Definitely shop for grass-fed meat and buy organic fluids and naturally made fluids. Cheap food in no shape or form is a good thing dealing with any health benefits. Only advantage is a poor family looking for quantity or feeding the homeless because of the low cost and commodity. I don’t necessarily agree with but I guess money has a lot to do with. Corn subsidies change accordingly to an overweight society and the government has the power or say to make these
decisions.
If the Average American feels that obesity and diabetes or any sort of disease caused by unhealthy eating, we can be prevalent in making changes to our daily nutritional diets. We should start paying more attention to the ingredients and switch to organic foods and fluids. We also need to inform others and educate Americans on this dilemma. Also encourage people to exercise regularly with a proper diet. Finally, I feel we can also make changes by informing others through the media, social networks, blogs, and word of mouth. Over the years diseases and obesity has increased immensely. We can stop this by taking the time to research a good nutritional diet and it’s only up to us as an individual to put an end to the tragedies we see or read about every day.
