The Great Gatsby Green Light Essay
In Striblens English class we have been reading the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and, for a project, we had to draw a unique cover for the book and use one of the many symbols from the book. There were many symbols like The eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg, The valley of Ashes, so yeah, We were given many symbols, but I have chosen to draw two of those symbols on my cover: the green light and the uncut books in Jay Gatsby’s house. The green light, situated at the end of Daisy’s East Egg dock and barely visible from Gatsby’s West Egg lawn, symbolizes Daisy Buchanan, Gatsby's love interest. The green light is a light at the end of the dock at her house and Gatsby tends to stare at it and think of her and what could've been. It’s an unattainable dream and a hazy, unpredictable future.

The uncut books in Gatsby’s library symbolizes how fake Gatsby is. He puts up a facade around people, so no one really knows who Gatsby really is. The ends of the book's pages are uncut which means he has never touched nor read them, he only has them to make himself look well educated. My cover shows a stack of books, different shapes and sizes, sitting on a table, with a green light shining down on them, illuminating them. What I wanted to represent was that everything Gatsby does, all of the different faces that he wears, he’s doing it for Daisy. He has dedicated his entire life to a past lover, he just wants to be with her and he’ll do anything to be with her. The book, The Great Gatsby, is filled with many symbols and many things that you have to analyze to realize the real meaning of what it symbolizes, but I believe it just makes the book better. It gives you something to think of and it might even stick in your mind long after you have finished the
