In middle school, I dreaded high school. It was a whole new world full of challenges that I only had a glimpse of from reading Perks of Being a Wallflower and Catcher in the Rye. I spent much of my time worrying about what high school would be like. But I never imagined that I would become a person that would not only conquer the challenges but also help others face theirs.…

High school: a major transition in many teen’s lives that poses some confusing, yet important, questions. Who am I? Where do I belong? What am I going to do with my life? One second the rain would be pouring down with such force that you could not see a foot in front of you, and the roads were flooded up to your knees, and the next it was sunny and sticky. The humidity was so high that you constantly felt damp, and your hair frizzed the second you walked outside, but nonetheless it was a beautiful place to see. I walked in the door to stacks of suitcases and tons of kids just like me playing games and getting to know each other. They handed me my lanyard, key, and name tag, and it was time to say goodbye to my parents until the week was over. I was no longer excited , but now apprehensive and wondering if it was too late to back out. I knew it was, and finally said goodbye retreating to my assigned table. There were only two other kids sitting at my table when I arrived but they already seemed to be best friends. By the end of the night I was exhausted, but reeling with excitement for the adventures I would have with my new friends. I texted my mom to say goodnight, and set my alarm for five the next…

The first few days of junior high wasn’t great. I had no friends and had no intentions on trying to get any. But on the 4th day of school, I was actually getting pretty bored of the no friend thing and decided to hit up with these 2 girls in my gym class. And from there I started being excited of this new school for new beginnings, but there was still anxiety flowing through my…

It was my first day. I took a deep breath and walked in the door with a fear of being embarrassed and frustrated. The smell of french toast and egg omelettes for breakfast. I grabbed an ice cold water from the cafeteria and headed to my first class. Kids of all grades were scattered right and left in the halls. Students struggling to open their lockers. Teachers rushed to get their work ready before the students arrived for class. Everything was very hectic and way more different than middle school.…

Waking up on the morning of the first day of high school felt like butterflies took over my stomach. I had to put together an impressing outfit, fix my hair, and put on appealing makeup. Knowing that in about an hour I would be entering a totally different school environment than what I’m used to frightened me. Within every period of the school day, the butterflies started to flutter out of my stomach and into my new learning atmosphere. Although students tend to fear high school and think it is a nightmare to transition from middle school to the next level, attending high school is not much of a dramatic change.…

Oh gosh a new school, a new year. I never liked this moving back and forth thing every time Dad gets a new job. There is no point in making friends, but this year will be different I thought, as I waited for the bus to arrive. I started to see the ugly mustard yellow bus approach me. As the door to the bus opened, the smell of damp, wet towels that have been sitting in a pile for weeks on end ,and overly sweet perfume punched me in the face. “Maby this year won't be so different after all,” I thought as the bus doors opened. Ridgewood High I thought a new beginning, but I ran to my first class, honors calculus. I was scared to approach anyone based on my looks. I have dark brown hair, dorky square glasses that are too big on me that I…

My change from middle school to high school was very scary because high school is a bigger school than middle school. The things about high school that scared me were the hallways, people, and how difficult it was going to be overall. In the middle school there’s wo big hallways, one little band hall, and a tiny gym right outside so it’s not hard to get lost. The high school is a different story there’s two big hallways, classes outside on the hill, the band hall, and the event center. The sophomores were nice, the juniors and seniors weren’t so nice and it never changed over the years. I know senior year hasn’t finished but I don’t think it’ll be better than my freshmen year, because I’ve been stressing every day since this year started. All…

The last time I remember something as huge as starting in high school was having to move to Oregon from Alaska, but for better or for worse, here I am, attempting to make my mark on this big blue Earth. However, Highschool was never always just peaches, cream, rainbows and unicorns. If I’m to be one hundred percent honest here, I was legitimately terrified of it, whether it be the totally reasonable fear of being stuffed into a locker by a bully or getting lost in a labyrinth of corridors and passages of infinite classes and broom closets. But those fears never truly emerged up until the final days of freedom that remained from my graduation of 8th grade. As the days drew nearer, so did my fear reaching the brim of a breakdown. I was scared,…

The first day of sixth grade was a monumental day for me. I was being exposed to new teachers, new friends, and a new environment. When I arrived at school, the first thing I had to face was my locker. After multiple tries, the locker finally opened. The next sixth grade obstacle I had to face was choosing a seat to sit at. I awkwardly walked into math class, scanning the room for an open chair and decided to sit with a couple of my friends from fifth grade. One of the biggest struggles of the first day was finding my classes, as walking all around the school to get where I need to be was new to me. It took a lot of adjusting, as our grade had gone from being the big kids in…

Grade 6: In my opinion the sole purpose of middle school was so that all of the adolescent miscreants could be forced into one awkward prison. The proof was in the cafeteria, a minefield of strange social customs and noisy kids who seemed to enjoy nothing more than screwing up another person’s day. At least those were my thoughts when I first entered the overly powerful axe scented school. But at the table where I now sat around with friends new and old in all directions, my opinion was quickly morphing. Sure, most people were immature and concerned only with themselves, but here I was laughing along with them, perhaps I was simply pretentious and carping to see the flaws in the school.…
