The Causes of Divorce

Divorce is a global issue that a lot of people are suffering from. It terminates a marital relationship and cancels responsibilities of marriage; the rate of divorce is increasing day by day, and no one can stop it. A statistic shows that just in Morocco, which has a small population, 44,222 divorces occurred in 2011; many people want to know the causes of divorce before they get married to avoid that problem in the future. Some studies revealed that there are three main causes of divorce.

First, domestic violence is one of these reasons behind divorce because many divorcing women said that they have encountered it through their lives of marriage. There are two types of domestic violence: emotional and physical harm; many abusive men discriminate and persecute their wives in front of their children and their families, and that makes a harmful impact on their feeling. Moreover, they use physical aggression; they hurt them on their bodies by biting them with objects. All that makes these women ask for divorce.

Second cause is addiction. Many women are divorced due to this reason because when a woman married a man who is addicted to alcohol and drugs, she doesn’t feel safe. That man will start to scare her, for he cannot control himself when he is under the effect of drugs; he can kill her and her children unconsciously. Moreover, if she married

a gambling man, she will start to worry about financial problems because that man will spend all of his money in gambling stations, and maybe he will start to get loans to gamble. The third reason is adultery. It is the most common cause for divorce in the world because when a husband or a wife committees adultery, it means that he or she is no longer needs his or her partner: moreover, it is an insulting behavior that is regarded as serious offence, and it causes divorce immediately, for it is not like they other reasons that I mentioned before; addiction and domestic violence can be solved, but having sex with others is unforgivable because it is betrayal that breaks the trust between the husband and the wife. To sum up, studies disclose that the main reasons behind divorce are domestic violence, addiction, and adultery, and the most offensive one is adultery. people should know that marriage is something sacred that unites tow persons and makes them live together to protect each other and to create a family, so everyone who is married should respect this relationship and preserve it until the very end.
