Film directors and producers use presentational devices to give clues to the audience about the characters personalities and image and the action in the movie. Using the two characters called Ginger and Mrs. Tweedie, I am going to look into how the film makers have used different camera angles, lighting, setting, music, sound effects, and character costume and interaction to create more meaning and emotion within the audience. I will look specifically at the portrayal of Ginger as the good character and Mrs. Tweedie as the evil character.…
What I learned. I learned the differences between transgender, transexual, and transvestite (cross-dressing). Jennifer Boylan made it understood that she is a “male-to-female transexual” and not a transvestite. She said that the word transvestite sounds “creepy” and bug-like. She believes that it is not about dressing up like a female but mentally and physically feeling like one.…
Ridley Scott couldn’t have timed a terrifying outer space movie with an unstoppable Alien any better. In a time when our society was experiencing a declining economy, political mayhem and a gender role revolution, Ridley addressed his audience in a brilliant manner. Alien stands as a groundbreaking movie that not only tested movie genres but also tugged on the number one heartstring, which was a seemingly dark and gloomy future of mankind. Incorporating a throbbing temp track, psychosexual imagery implications and threatening sound effects, Alien (1979) attacks and fuels the 70s decade fire of comprehending the fears of the unknown and uncertain rapid spread of technology, sexual disease and feminism.…
I don’t care if you are white, black, brown, yellow, green, man women… transvestite, it doesn’t matter.…
The documentary that I chose to do an analysis on is “Growing Up Trans”, a film that is showed on a T.V. a series called Frontline directed, by Martin Smith. In this documentary film it goes through the life of young kids that are planning to change there identity to a different gender. While the kids plan on taking hormone blockers they are being educated by doctors at Children's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois on how the hormone blockers are processed. Some of the parents are nervous because they don’t know if there will be long term side effects that may affect their child’s health. Hormone blockers are not well researched therefore they can be dangerous.…
Growing up in an old fashioned household with immigrant parents from the Middle East, I didn’t hear anything about anything that wasn’t traditional in relation to sexuality. I didn’t know anything of becoming transgendered. As I got older I learned more about it, and the reasons why people don’t feel comfortable as the person they were born. Watching “Becoming Chaz” showed me even more insight on the topic, showing his personal perception, and his journey changing from a woman to a man. After watching this film, I do believe that everyone is entitled to making their own decisions for what will make them happy, and I do agree that there should be a name for this difference in a person’s mind.…

Gus and Lynch never displayed any behavior to can be seen as Hyper-masculine. Gus shooting of the man in the back was motivated be fear. Hyper-masculinity is the lack of fear. Gus and Lynch are not invisible. Throughout the film the Lynch and Gus are noticed feared and hated. Lynch is respected by Ben by not shaking his hand. Gus and Lynch were Hyper-sexualized by trying to force women to marry them. The preoccupation with marrying the women could be seen as their inability to control their sexual desires Gus and Lynch dressed in clothing suitable for their position. Gus shoot the man in the back is an example violent.…

Movies and television always priority man as strong and dominate. There are not many media portrayals that change the character of male. Men are still glorified for the sexual actives, non commitment and re-lack attitude of life. There are limited amount of films that deceits man in a different stereotypical life than the macho man. However, movies like She’s Out of My League has a very timid, fragile and nerdy male lead. His character tries to get the attention of beautiful, successful and desirable woman. The gender role differences in the movies tries to show the progression in media depiction. The movie was different because the male is not outwardly attractive and very clumsy. His brother represents the typical meat headed, unintelligent…
This essay will attempt to explore the idea that although both Jules et Jim and Les Valseuses explore progressive gender dynamics, ultimately their films remain grounded on traditional gender concepts. Both films move around the French-loved triangular structure between protagonists, around which this paper will explore gender in two ways; through a look at the classic woman-man dynamic, but also in familial terms, looking at fraternal, maternal and paternal gender codings, beginning with how the films portray a positive, equal gender dynamic, continuing into how the films contrarily confirm patriarchal gender dynamics, before coming to a conclusion on Truffaut and Blier’s actual comments on gender.…
Blaxploitation began in the early part of the 20th century when films in Hollywood hit a new high. This exploitation of Black America began when films started to characterize Black’s as what “White America” saw them as. The stereotypes of these incompetent, unintelligent and hyper-sexualized people were depicted throughout the film industry. Black’s were given these roles in different films. The roles were anything from playing the role of a pimp, hoe or criminal. If they weren’t playing one of these roles, they were being put in what was seen as a more positive role. Roles common to being seen as a more positive outlooks would be a man playing the role of a butler or a woman playing the role of a mammy. The greatest…
The development of film can be a process that is extensive and complex. Film analysis helps the viewer to understand what the director is trying to convey to the audience. To analyze a film successfully, it is important to understand how collaborative filmmaking really works. There are a number of elements that must work together not only to have a successful production but also to guide the audience through the story. Some such elements are the film’s narrative structure, colorization, director’s style, camera shot, and actor selection. While the actor is the most visible of the elements on screen; there are many craftsmen that perform behind the scene functions in order to get the finished product in front of a viewing audience. To really have a handle on how movies work, it is helpful to watch a number of films in different genres to understand the conventions of each. Knowing and understanding all of the technical elements of film can help the viewer to analyze the film more carefully. Furthermore, they may gain an emotional attachment to the film, and find some level of truth as they become more aware of what has taken place in order to bring it to life.…

Movies are all about taking you on an adventure. They expand our minds, they bring our imagination to life, and manipulate our emotions. Directors do this in many ways, whether they are peculiar camera angles and shots, extreme lighting, or music that intensifies a scene. If a director correctly implements these within their movie, the audience’s emotions can very easily be manipulated.…
