Sunset In The Outsiders
Sunrises and sunsets in the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton takes a very important role in the novel and even in real life. A sunset is the time in the evening when the sun disappears or daylight fades. A sunset to me means the end of the day, and a sunrise is the beginning of a new day. A sunset shows opportunities fading away unlike a sunrise that reveals opportunities. For the Sunset project my sunset was made out of stained glass and mirrors. Lastly, the sunset plays a role in The Outsiders. The sunset may represent safety within the greasers life, or even the similarities between a greaser and a Soc. A sunrise and sunset occur everyday. Meaning the sunrise begins a new day. A sunset ends a day. I don’t usually watch the sunsets unless I’m outside during the time the sun comes down. One week our homework was to watch the sunset and record observations. I noticed that the colors of the sunset changed and the time the sun went down gradually got later. The colors although usually consist of blue, pink, and purple around the sun. The sun’s colors were usually orange and yellow. The second reason why a sunset correlates to real life is explained in our sunset …show more content…
Usually if a greaser is by themselves and the sun has gone down they have a very high chance of getting jumped. This has happened to the greaser Johnny multiple times. Johnny was so worried that he would get jumped and seriously injured again that he started to carry around a knife. The quote “We get jumped by the socs” says how the greasers are even use to getting jumped. Secondly, the sunset shows how some of the greasers and the Socs relate. “It’s okay… we aren’t in the same class. Just don’t forget that some of us watch the sunset too.” Cherry said this to Ponyboy since they would talk about their love for

Since Ponyboy is a Greaser, a Greaser usually gets jumped by a Socs. While Ponyboy tells about how Johnny got jumped, Ponyboy also gets jumped for the first time. “‘ I had never been jumped, but I had seen Johnny after four Socs got hold of him, and it wasn't pretty. Johnny was scared of his own shadow after that. Johnny was sixteen then.” Page 5. Also on the same page, "Need a haircut, greaser?" The medium-sized blond pulled a knife out of his back pocket and flipped the blade open….."Are you alright, Ponyboy?"” This shows how the Socs jumps onto a Greaser. However, after getting jumped, his brother, Darry helps him and carries him to help him out. Another example is when Ponyboy and Johnny just finished watching the movies and when the Socs came to fight against them. This quote shows how Johnny is loyal to Ponyboy and helping him out. “"You really killed him, huh, Johnny?" "Yeah." His voice quavered slightly. "I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade... they were gonna beat me up...."”…

The use of "evening" and "morning" may be held to limit "day" to the solar day; but the frequent parabolic use of natural phenomena may warrant the conclusion that each creative "day" was a period of time marked off by a beginning and ending. (Scofield’s Reference Notes)…

The greasers are definitely considered outsiders because they are “dumb and poor”. People always “looked down on them” because of the rumors they heard; like when the Soc girl says “They are right. You are a hood.” to Ponyboy. She stereotypes him by the name society gave to him. Ponyboy can seem like an outsider to the…

Urquhart shows how the sun brightens and freshens everything and makes it feel like heaven, with its powerful source of light and energy. It starts to “enter from the garden” (2) shows that he feels at home. Continues throughout the house by “moving on the carpet” (3) he touches and brightens everything around, making humans wake up feeling energized by providing them that comfort and giving them that extra boost. Urquhart’s use of development throughout makes it evident that there is a purpose to the sun. The light goes about waking up inanimate objects in the house when “he polishes your tables” (19) as a result, the table is ready for the day. The author also writes about the areas in which the light of the sun affects in a sequential order until it contacts the person “a weight of gold and heat he stops burning at the flesh of your neck” (24 – 26) and performs his purpose. Overall the development reveals the sun can make everything around a human feel like heaven, “you are the only shadow in the room” (27) the sun can help to a limit. To understand why “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning” can predict the weather, we have to understand more about weather and the colors in the sky. The colors you notice in the sky are due to rays of sunlight being split into colors of the spectrum as they pass through the atmosphere and bounce off the water vapor and particles in the atmosphere. The amounts of water vapor and dust particles in the atmosphere are good indicators of weather conditions. They also determine which colors we will see in the sky. When there is a sunrise or sunset the sun is low in the sky and it transmits light through the thickest part of the atmosphere. If there is a red sky that means that there is more dust and moisture particles in the atmosphere. We see the red, because red wavelengths are breaking through the atmosphere. Red wavelengths are the longest color in the color hue. The shorter wavelengths, such as blue, are scattered and divided up.…

In the novel it talks mostly about how the Greasers’ care for one another. They’ll be there to have each other’s back when they got jumped by Socs’. They’ll be there if one of them got in trouble with the police. They’ll always have each other’s back when they needed it the most. But I think that they care about Johnny the most. He was jumped really badly by the Socs’ and he was scared ever since. They always protected him when he was in danger. Darry, Ponyboy, and Sodapop provided food and shelter for him when his parents were fighting because he was sick of it. In fact, Darry, Ponyboy, and Sodapop provided food and shelter for anybody in the gang. That’s why they keep their front door unlocked. Another example was when Johnny died. Everybody was shocked and depressed, especially Dally. It was like they couldn’t live without him. This proves how much they care for each other, and…
