The four centuries covered in this chapter mark a transitory phase in the history of East Asia. During this time, the threat of conquest from Mongol tribes dissipated. On the other hand, western European merchants and governments encroached upon the kingdoms of Japan, Korea, and China. More and more, East Asia was connected to the broader global trading patterns that western Europeans established during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Unlike in native civilizations and kingdoms in the Americas, European encroachment in East Asia did not result in the collapse of local political and cultural traditions. Indeed, cultural and political traditions continued to evolve along historical patterns. In 1800, East Asian societies were still remarkably cohesive despite the dramatic changes in global economic and political patterns occurring all around them.…

Many students find the course content on world regions, countries, and places to be some of the most challenging material to learn. The combination of student unfamiliarity with the world regions and the large volume of information to be learned can be overwhelming. To help you organize your studies, keep in mind WGU’s intention behind this course, which is for competent students to have a strong grasp of the major human and physical geographic conditions that interact to shape our world. When you are studying world region, we want you to emphasize the 1) “big picture” of the geographic conditions in each world region, 2) the major countries of that region, and 3) how that region relates to the rest of the world.…

    • 8 Pages

Geography exists throughout our everyday lives, where we live, where we work, what we eat, and what we believe in. It plays an essential role in understanding why, where, or how something exists. For example, an introduction to geography gives the knowledge of understanding how certain landforms were formed, or why certain bodies of water exist. This further leads to how certain weather patterns form, thus creating different types of biomes and substantial agricultural productions. Geographers ask the basic questions that answer much more complex questions. This leads to the “My Country Profile Assignment,” for which I have been assigned the country of Afghanistan. Afghanistan’s radically different seasons, political geography, and its involvement in recent world affairs makes it a great country to geographically analyze. I will spend the next segments of this country profile report describing the basic concepts of Afghanistan’s geography.…
