Being able to socialize and interacting is all a part of being a human. We have the desire to interact with other humans who are different. Some people might want to find friends, gain perspective, or to explore different thoughts and ideas. At times humans will go out their way just to fit in with other people because they don’t want to be left out. I think that some people will change their behavior just to fit in a crowed. I don’t see nothing wrong with anyone trying to fit in with their surroundings. The bad part about this situation is you’re not showing who you really are. It is a fact that human behaviors change when their

Peter Ustinov once said, “In America, through pressure of conformity, there is freedom of choice, but nothing to choose from.” This is unbelievably true as much as we try not to admit it. Society has made it where we really don’t have a choice when it comes to certain things if we want to be “normal” and liked. Although we might say we would act differently than everyone else in a hypothetical situation, when it comes down to it, we would more than likely just follow along with the behavior of everyone else. This is just whom we are as individuals- how we are wired. We don’t want to risk standing out and being ridiculed or singled out. Sure, we want to be unique and remembered,…

To be accepted by society people have to follow the norm. When you step outside of the mainstream you are considered "different" no matter how right you are. That’s why when someone starts a movement people are against him, until enough people start do it his way and "it becomes the norm". It is also called trying to fit in because if you do something out of the norm, you are pretty much an outsider. People get others to do things out of the norm every day, it just goes unnoticed. Most of the time people don’t do it in public because it isn’t something they want to draw attention to.…

What does it mean to “be yourself”? What does it mean to conform to comply with others standards or opinions? Do you ever change your appearance, behaviors, or actions based on what you believe others will think? When venturing into the topic of conformity vs individuality, I strongly believe that you should strive to both exercise conformity and individuality in your life. It feels great to be part of a group, to fit in, but in doing so DO NOT lose sense of who you truly are. If in social situations you find yourself being steered to talk differently, act differently, or simply do things differently from the way you truly are, then you may be conforming in order to fit in. Be who you genuinely are, not who people want you to be. Ultimately,…

I decided for my social observation the mall would be a good place to start. I came there on a Friday evening when there should be plenty of people to watch. I also sat in the Barnes and Noble café after that to observe. I expected to see a lot of people shopping and conversing. A few things did stand out to me within the few hours I was there. Some things I didn’t expect to see. We are expected to behave a certain way in public determined by our culture as to what is acceptable. Some people stay well within the lines while some might stray outside the norms but never too far typically. Usually the ones to travel to the extremes are adolescents and teenagers. This is what I observed.…

I have a very mixed family. My mom and my dad got married and had me soon after. They separated when I was about two so their separation was all I’ve ever known. It continued to change for me when I got a little sister but not another dad. Then my mom met my step dad and he had three children of his own. So I had two new brothers and a sister! Meanwhile my dad was in a relationship and then they had my little brother (and they got married after)! Then my mom had a boy and two years later, she had my little sister. My mom was by herself so before she met my stepdad we lived with my nana. We didn’t have a lot of money now that I look back on it, but I didn’t know. I always had everything I needed. After my mom married my step dad we were pretty well off. My dad has always worked in tile so it had been up and down income but I was always happy. We did a lot of things because of my grandparents’ income, such as; vacations and overdone weekends when I would visit. Things changed and I don’t talk to my grandparents anymore. My dad gets help from his mom and her husband but that’s a whole different story. I didn’t treat past boyfriends well because of this incident growing up but don’t worry I learned good things too. My mom is the best mom in the world. She taught me manners, and independence. Once I graduated high school, everything I soon had was earned. Once getting into the work field I realized that the way I carried myself, my manners and politeness were well appreciated. I’ve landed every job I’ve ever wanted post interview process and have made progress in every position than when I first started a job. I know I can thank my mom for that.…
