Peter then has to go to jail, translated orally as ‘prison’. The parody of the joke about his shower experience transfers well to French, as the ‘do not drop your soap in the prison shower’ gag is known in both cultures. Back home, Stewie offers his mom some grenades, quoting Forrest Gump’s ‘Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get!’. Unfortunately, the French adaptors did not take the exact quote from the movie: instead of saying ‘on ne sait jamais sur quoi on va tomber’, the baby says ‘on ne sait jamais quelle crotte on va avoir’. However, the new pun and the insistence on Stewie’s way of speaking do play a crucial part in Stewie’s portraying and the quote is still distinguishable. At the courthouse, translated…

Family Guy often relies on jokes that have absolutely no effect on the plot. They usually are brought up when a character says, "Remember when" or "that's like the time I..." Irrelevant jokes can obstruct plotlines in other shows; the majority of the Family Guy jokes have hilarious results. Family Guy strength lies in references usually from the 1970s culture. Thus, Family Guy is able to reach a wide audience who retains bizarre material from decades past. Recently South Park created a parody episode of Family Guy. Eric Cartman simple stats “Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go: Hey Cartman you must like Family Guy, right? Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of Family Guy, Cartman! I am nothing like Family Guy! When I make jokes they are inherent to a story! Deep situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and have a point, not just one random interchangeable joke after…
Equality for soldiers of different sexual orientations has come slowly. In 1993 President Clinton enacted a policy which is known as “Don’t ask, don’t tell”. This rule allowed soldiers who did not openly discuss their homosexuality to legally serve in the military. Before that just being discovered as being gay was enough to get you an immediate dishonorable discharge. Some people were very worried that gay soldiers would pursue unwanted romantic relationships with their straight fellow soldiers and cause lots of discomfort in the barracks and in combat situations. Others worried that gay soldiers would be targets of harassment by straight soldiers. Both of these worries turned out to be unfounded and in 2010 soldiers of all sexual orientations…
Throughout history Americans have seen many pushes for equality that have changed what America is today, including the Civil Rights Movement and Women’s Suffrage. However, today Americans are faced with a new movement; the homosexual movement. Homosexuals have been discriminated against for hundreds of years. A recent controversy that activists are fighting for is homosexuals being able to fight in the armed forces openly. The policy of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, or DADT, has allowed homosexuals to serve, but in secrecy. Many people believe this is the “fair” thing to do. However people such as, pop icon, Lady Gaga say “fundamentally it’s against all that we stand for as Americans.” (Gaga). Gaga said this on September 19, 2011 during a gay pride rally. Rallies like this show that this has been a major topic that has been discussed recently. Under the signature of President Obama and influence of people such as Lady Gaga, DADT has actually been repealed and no longer considered legitimate.…
The Simpsons are one of the longest running and most popular television shows. This popularity exists because "the Simpsons [have] always operated on two levels. On one level appealing to children as a fast paced cartoon and then for the older audiences for its wit and [satire]" (Batscha). Satire is the common thread with binds all of The Simpsons episodes. The writers show the absurdity in ordinary everyday situations including religion, politics and other social issues. This has been the leading cause for its controversy and longevity. However, the Simpsons' crude style is necessary and meant to induce anger. The public school system is one of the most common targets of satire.…

Laughing at violence is a corresponding theme with antirealism, opening audiences to the interpretation of its ambiguities. Antirealism is not for everyone, but for those who accept the humor and intentional morals behind it. Family Guy mainly centers around a dysfunctional family coping with everyday life from a heavy reality. The show’s methodology of antirealism voices out a platform to use satire as a way to criticize and expose stupidity and vices in the context of politics and other topical issues. Parents would unlikely allow their children to watch anything revolving around thematic subjects based. Also, the portrayal of reality in the show may trigger audiences to feel offended and unsafe. But the feedback on antirealism could also…
The Abu Ghirab prison was the most horrific, brutal and dehumanizing thing I have even come across. The level of suffering the inmates experienced words cannot express how terrifying it is. There were male as well as female and even worst, children was in that dreadful place. They were treated worse than animals in my opinion, I cannot see in no one lives they should have to encounter such gruesome experience. The Stanford prison experiment was conducted on August 14th to 20th, 1971.The team of researchers were led by professor Phillip Zimbardo. This experiment was conducted with college students. This experiment was also dehumanizing although the prisoners were forced to engage in many events, such as defecating in buckets and used their hands…
