Reflective Practice In Health And Social Care
Reflective practice is a tool that can be used by all working individuals to enhance their practice. It can also be used as a management tool, enabling managers to guide and support staff to reflect on key elements of their role and their performance. It is the opportunity to look over what you have done, what worked well and what needs to be improved. Make a record of what went well and look for ways to improve the things that need to be better. Sometimes it may be necessary to seek opinions and information from others to validate reflections and to help us to see whether any change is required.
Learning is derived from experience but it doesn’t just happen. For it to take place you not only need to engage in reflection you must also record it. By thinking about what you are doing and why you are doing it, it is what turns your experiences into meaningful learning. To become a reflective

An example of reflective practice is when booking appointments in the workplace we have a book to document all appointment times and dates. However there had been a few occasions where staff had double booked and there was not enough staff to accompany residents to appointments. This resulted in staff having to make the decision weighing up options such as who needed the most support, can any residents go alone, or even re-arranging one to one times to be able to attend appointments
Reflecting on this an approach was adopted where the weekly appointments were then wrote up on the board in the office and also upcoming appointments for that month so that they are in view, this enables them to ensure that when booking appointments they arrange them around existing appointments to prevent any issues arising on the
