Similar to the camera shot discussed above, this close-up shot also provokes the viewer’s emotion. However, the emotions of the viewer in this aspect play a different role to the film as it makes them more vulnerable to being persuaded. This vulnerability comes from the exposure to the commitment of the team and their feelings. The director is able to take advantage of this vulnerability and present his message in a more direct way to the viewer. Transitioning to the author, his use of pathos in the second aspect of the scene of the scene builds off of the first, as noted above. Futhermore, the author takes advantage in this increase of liability as he describes the second aspect of the scene in a narrative and descriptive writing style to protary chaos; “Then out of nowhere Brooks started to spew, berating his first-line winger for being a candy-ass and a pretty boy… people shouting, mayhem and bad feelings spilling everywhere, out into the hallway. A few players wanted to rip Brooks’s head off” (Coffey 115). The author’s use of aggressive terms such as “candy-ass” and “rip Brook’s head off” provokes the reader’s emotions to a greater extent as it was made liable from the first scene. In addition, the author use of a descriptive and narrative style in presenting this scene creates drama which appeals to the reader’s emotions. Both, the use of aggressive terms and writing styles makes it difficult for the reader to stop reading which allows the author to present his…

Performances in this film are key in provoking an emotional response, especially in some of the final scenes of the film when Brandon is sexually assaulted and eventually murdered by two men, Tom and John. They are his girlfriend’s friends who are extremely protective of her. Tom and John’s performances when sexually assaulting Brandon are effective in making the audience feel disgusted, shocked and physically sick. They drive Brandon out to a remote location and violently assault him but the thing that is most disturbing is the fact that throughout it, they are jumping around with massive smiles on their faces and high fiving each other. The disgust that this makes the audience feel is huge because they are doing something so violent yet they are getting this much enjoyment out of it. As an audience we want to help Brandon but we are helpless and this is emphasised by Brandon’s emotions. He is shouting as loud as he can with tears flooding down his face and she can hear Tom and John’s reaction which is only making things worse.…

When he hears a bit of Robert’s tape, he says it sounds only like “harmless chitchat,” not realizing that this sort of intimate communication is exactly what his own marriage lacks. He knows that his wife has told Robert about him and has probably complained about his faults. This makes him feel guilty, insecure, and somewhat hostile toward both his wife and Robert. Only when the narrator closes his eyes to finish drawing the cathedral does he approach the level of understanding that his wife and Robert have achieved through their taped correspondence. This reveals the extent of his self-delusion and what he believes is what is important in a relationship. He assumes that because he can see, he is more capable of brining joy and happiness to his wife as compared to Robert. But the audiotapes show that there is a huge difference between seeing with one’s eyes and seeing with one’s heart. For the first time he is seeing, rather than…

Human kind has always displayed a desire, within their literature, to engross themselves on a journey of self reflection. However often these journeys can also be negatively forced upon a character. However, in ’10 Mary street’ Skrzynecki focuses on positive outcomes of journeys that him and his family have taken on their own. Furthermore ‘Girl, interrupted’, the 1999 movie directed by James Mangold, Outlines the segregation and inequality of forced journeys whilst also looking at journeys with positive outcomes of self enlightenment that were chosen to be taken.…

Camera angles and shot sizes are used in films to reveal characters emotions and reactions when put in certain situations. This paragraph will look at the chosen scene and discuss the different camera angles and shot sizes used and how they affect the audience. In Act 5, scene 3 Luhrmann's version the shot sizes and camera angles include an extreme close up on Romeo's eyes as he enters the tomb of the Capulet's. This shot size is used to display the sadness in Romeo's eyes as this is the first time he is seeing his beloved Juliet dead. A subjective angle is then used to show the audience what Romeo is seeing as he enters the tomb. Romeo then makes his way to Juliet and Luhrmann uses a medium close up of Romeo; this allows the audience to witness Romeo’s emotions as he closes in on Juliet. A high angle is then used to show how Juliet is powerless to all that is occurring. As Romeo holds her hand an extreme close up is used, this shows that Juliet is starting to awaken as her hand moves. This shot size creates a great deal of anxiety for the audience, because they know what is going…
