Abstract
Persians and Himalayans
This paper will explore the differences between Persian and Himalayans cats with the respect to the color and different healthcare and where they originate from.
These cats are alike in many ways, Himalayans are Persians and some are not Himalayans are essentially a cross between a Persian and a Siamese, but among the Persian they have striking marks as Himalayan. Himalayans trademarks this colors which this makes the cat stand out this is just some of the colors it may have red cream tortie, seal, lilac or even chocolate blue cream but the most popular color is blue. Persians color prints are not that colorful and they are not well defined that’s why people can’t tell the difference between these breeds of cats.
Where these cats orientated from are two beautiful places. The Himalayans origin is the United States also it carries the nick name “Himmy”. In Europe they are commonly called Colour print Persians that began in the 1950’s. Persians origin is Iranian plateau (Persia). In Britain it is also called the Longhair or Persian Longhair and the Traditional Persians cats are also known as the (Doll Face Persian) is considered as a true breed of Persian cat breed. The first Persian was presented at a cat show at the Crystal Palace in London, England in 1871. The first breed standards (then known as points of excellence) was issued in 1889 by Harrison Weir, the creator of the first cat show. Persians differ from any other cat breed.
Also these cats have some healthcare things that need to be known before you own one. In the Persian ancestor some carry the gene that causes Polycystic Kidney Disease also known as (PKD). Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) which causes kidney failure in affected adult cats has an incidence rate of 36-49 % in the Persian breed. Cysts develop and grow in the kidney overtime, replacing kidney tissues and enlarging the kidney.
