Pablo Escobar * Born December 1,1949 in Antioquia, Colombia * He controlled over 80% of the cocaine shipped to the u.s * Earned popularity by sponsoring charity projects and soccer clubs, but terror campaigns turned public opinion against him * He began his crime early stealing tombstones while he was young. * He started buying coca paste in Bolivia and Peru, refine it and transport it for sale in the us. * His first kill was in 1975 killing Fabio Restrepo taking over his organization and expanding it. * He was elected into Colombia’s congress in 1982 which made his rise complete success. * By mids 1980s Pablo Escobar was one of the most powerful men in the world * He was listed as the seventh-richest man in the world. His empire included soldiers and criminals private zoo mansions and apartments all over Colombia and planes for drug transport and personal wealth reported to be in the neighborhood of $24 billion he could order the murder of anyone, anywhere, any time. * In 1976 married 15 year old Maria Victoria Henao Vellejo he was 27 * 1991 increasing pressure to extradite Pablo kept so his lawyers and the government came up with a arrangement.( He would build his own prison with his own guards and control everything still from inside the prison). It was call La Cathedrals which had a Jacuzzi, a waterfall, a full bar and soccer field. He was the only prisoner * After the government saw he was controlling to much and had government officals brought to his prison where they were tortured and killed. This wa to much for the Colombian government so plans were made to extradite Pablo . fearing he would get extradited he escaped which wasn’t hard because it was his prison with his own guards.
