Section 1 – Comprehension

1. At the start of the novel you can tell that George and Lennie live very simple lives because their clothes are very basic and they are carrying blanket rolls 2. The mice that lennie pats are killed because Lennie, not knowing his own strength. Pats the too hard. 3. The relationship between George and Lennie is a strong friendship, George cares about Lennie very much because Lennie, Is not competent to take care of him self 4. The excuse that George gives for Lennie’s retardation was that Lennie was a bright child but due to a freak accident of a horse kicking Lennie in the head resulted in his retardation 5. The definiation of pugnacious is “Eager or quick to argue, quarrel, or fight.” The character best described with this word is Curley 6. Candy thinks Curley's wife is a tart meaning she isn't satisfied with just having a husband and has to go looking for other men. He thinks she's trouble. 7. Lennie slept in the barn because he wanted to be close to the puppies. But Lennie wasn't sleeping in the barn, he slept in the bunkhouse with the other workers. 8. Lennie and Curley got into a fight because Curley attacked Lennie, This happened because Curley asked what Lennie was laughing about but Lennie was confused on what to do. 9. Candy’s dog was shot. One of the guys who stayed in the house convinced Candy to let him put the dog out of his misery. Candy later regretted not taking the responsibily himself. 10. Lennie starts to talk to Crooks about the rabbits they're going to get, but Crooks just thinks he's crazy. Lennie tells Crooks if he doesn't believe him he can ask George. Crooks asks Lennie about travelling with George and if the two of them talk. Crooks becomes very excited when he realizes he can tell Lennie anything, because Lennie won't understand it. He tells Lennie how when he was young his father had a chicken ranch. Crooks used to play with the white children, but his father didn't
