Sometimes I like to sit and stare at the map of the world that hangs on my wall. I look at certain countries and imagine what life must be like there or think about which ones I would like to visit. It gives me a sense of peace to be able to look at the whole world at once from a distance like this.
My wardrobe doors are a collage of cut outs from travel brochures and magazine articles on exotic holiday destinations. I can gaze at turquoise oceans, snowcapped mountains and cities lit up at night whenever I want- no need to buy a plane ticket.
The colour scheme of my room is sandy carpet, sunny yellow walls and turquoise and blue curtains and bedding. I wanted the room to be all blue but I was advised against it because it is a north facing room and it would have been very dark. I always thought yellow was an in-yer-face sort of colour but the walls actually brighten the place up.
The shelves overflow with DVDs on every genre. When the rain pours outside, ( or any time really) I escape into the world of film where all the drama is carefully scripted, the jokes are funny and I can fast-forward any boring bits. Unlike in real life.
My CD player is turned up loud when no one else is home and I sing along. I can hold a tune but I am shy so I prefer others not to hear me.
On my desk, my laptop has pride of place. What would we do without the Internet today? I am forever Googling random topics and questions that come into my head. I can learn so much without ever leaving my inner sanctum. Articles for my university course, textbooks and other learning aids sit side by side with novels, biographies and more.
