Personally, the song captivates my heart and considering the tragedies that I have faced in my life, when I listen to this song I get this inner whisper that says I am a survivor and I am strong. I radiate energy thereafter as, the pain, fear, disappointment, betrayal and jealousy turns into love. They are known to occasionally rap and include specific tempos and beats that correspond with each song’s thought provoking lyrics. In the song “Oh. Ms. Believer” by Twenty One Pilots they use the analogy of snow to describe a young girl going through depression. The band accurately describes the feeling of being trapped inside one's mind as they go through the hardships of this mental illness. Although at first this song may be interpreted as another cliché alternative hit, the meanings hidden beneath the lyrics are sure to tug at the listener's heart strings as he/she looks through the eyes of someone who struggles with a loved one who is depressed.…

At first I thought that the music was not in tandem with these lyrics at all. The lyrics have such depression in them at first while the music itself is so peppy and upbeat. I could not understand how they worked together. That for me was the site of struggle. Hegemonic norms tell us that songs about death and sadness should be slow and heavy. This song has such energy to it and resists hegemonic norms so that it couldn’t possibly fall into the category of death. I listened to the song a few more times and I realized that the song was not just a sad retelling of a story, but it is a memorial of…

All though my parents never got a divorce I feel a connection with different pieces of the song and I thoroughly enjoyed the way he expressed his emotions throughout the song in words I would have never thought of using. The song is very vocal with a quite instrumental background that ties it all together, he uses so much emotion and power in his singing that it’s hard not to feel the same emotions he is feeling in this song. He talks about his parents fighting and him trying to keep them together which I feel like most children have tried to do when their parents are fighting.…

I love to share music with people and I feel that different genres have different therapeutic benefits that can differ from person to person. Listening to music has its benefits but so does playing music, and I use music as a stress reliever on a daily basis. I have experienced the healing benefits that music provides and I wish to share those with other people. I have always been interested in why people behave the way they do; whether this behavior is from what has happened to them or what they have been through can be fixed. I love music, but I wanted to take a different perspective to it by focusing on music therapy for my senior project.…

The song “Strange Fruit” has something about it that you can never fully walk away from and forget. It could be the text itself so visualizing and dramatic, or the music that adds an even more haunting effect. The performer of course is the one who gets the social message across by the way they perform and the emotions they put into the song. Billie Holiday’s version makes this song stand out even more; a person can get the chills just listening to her sing it. Any way you look at it, it’s the combined effort of all these effects to make this song as amazing as it is.…

Music is used to help people of every ethnicity, religion, and lifestyle, cope with different struggles, times of enjoyment, and life itself. But, what is it about music that makes it so therapeutic? It’s the fact that no matter what the genre of music is, it’s what message that artist is putting out into the world. It’s the beat, the tone, and the emotion behind the lyrics is what makes listeners feel the way they do because it speaks on a specific aspect of life and what someone can be going through.…

“Talking shit about a pretty sunset,” is a song that portrays an overall apathetic outlook on life. The listener can clearly hear the discontent expressed in the words sung and the execution in the music. Growing up in a Baptist church, this hymn was a staple in the sermons preached on Sundays. This poem is widely known because in ails of time we’ve either heard it from the pulpit or from our grandmothers giving thanks to her Almighty God for saving her. Although this poem is short it is to the point. As stated in our text “hymns relate to universal human experience and the sweeping range of emotions they produce” and is a “poetic expressions of praise, hymns connect (and lift) these feelings—joyful, fearful, sad, grateful—to a divine realm as evidence of faith and with expectation of hope.” (Clugston, 2010). The song is universal and the lyrics are well known throughout the world.…

The song that I chose to analyze is “Changes” by Tupac Shakur. The late Tupac Shakur was an African American rapper who was shot dead years ago. His powerful lyrics have impacted the rap industry to this day, because he spoke the truth. His lyrics directly related to his everyday struggles, and how being a successful African American is not an easy task to achieve. Rap usually talks about events of everyday life, and the song “Changes” talks about racial profiling, poverty, and how racism affects the everyday life of African American people. Note that this song came out in about 1996 where things were different, however the lyrics of this song still ring in the ears of people who are affected by the evil of racism.…

Rather than focus on the gloomy and lonely lives people live, they focus on how people can grow and come together in times like this. The artists also inspire intense emotions through their music. Emotions create effective works of art. This musical has a beautiful message that everyone needs to hear and has touched me this year as I have faced the same feelings as Evan and many other high school students who feel as though they are “on the outside always looking in” (Waving Through a…

really defines a part of my childhood. The lyrics relate to the times when all of the kids on my block would hang out together everyday for hours at a time. Whether it was playing with sidewalk chalk, rolling down steep hills, until hives would appear on our stomachs, eating grass at the park, seeing who could find the biggest dandelion, or even just laying in the grass for hours naming the different shapes we saw in the clouds, we all had a reason to “love the today” we were in and love it anyway we wanted to. Everyone has had those certain on going fears when they were younger. As a child I was deathly scared of monsters. I…
