My Favorite Food
I love all kinds of noodles but my favourite is spaghetti. Thus, it is no great surprise that my favourite dish is Spaghetti Bolognese. I love this dish because of its great taste. Whenever my aunt cooked this special dish, I could easily wolf down three generous platefuls of it. As I slurped up the spaghetti, smudges of sauces would smear all over my mouth and chin. More often than not, my shirt ended up wearing a liberal dose of my meal.
Once, I tried cooking Spaghetti Bolognese at school. The ingredients consisted of tomato sauce, crunchy meat balls, minced beef and fine spaghetti strands. My friends could not wait to taste it. My superior cooking was acknowledged by all when everyone moaned in ecstasy while relishing the pasta. One of them even remarked, “Hey, dude, it’s super-duper awesome! Let’s do this every week!”
Later, I found out that the ingredients I used were not exactly the same as required in the original recipe. The said recipe required red wine, honey, olive oil and some other complex ingredients. The dish would probably be richer in taste and healthier as compared to my cooking experiment.
I frequently yearn for this mouth-watering pasta but as we normally eat rice, I cannot indulge myself as often I would have wished to. Rice served with other fresh food, is more nutritious and wholesome for our body than noodles. So, let’s not complain about what we eat or drink but be grateful to our parents who put our daily meals on the

    Salvadoran Culture

Back then, I was very picky about what I ate. I only ate white rice, chicken nuggets, and pizza, which were all very bad for me. But now that I am all grown up, I am not as picky than I was as a child, and I feel more in touch with my culture now. I am Salvadoran, which people mistakenly think I am Mexican or some other race, and one food I love from El Salvador is pupusas. They are like a very thick tortilla stuffed with beans, pork, and cheese and you put hispanic coleslaw on top and pour red sauce on top of, yet I only the pupusa by itself. I remember my mom tried to make pupusas and it wasn’t like the ones we had at Salvadorian restaurant because this one had love. The first time she made it was awful, it was very dry and the beans were leaking out off the tortilla because she did not have that right corn flour to make it with. Though the food was really bad, all I remember was having fun and making a mess in the kitchen. But the next couple of times, they turned out a lot better. Also recently during Christmas, my mom has been making my great grandmother’s turkey recipe for that last five years, which consists of twenty tomatoes! I love this recipe so much that I wish one day that I could replicated.…

One time, I tried a new thing that changed my life forever: a jalapeno. At Chile's, my mom said that she would give me ten dollars if I ate a jalapenó. So, being my weird and crazy self, I took the bet. At that time, it was the spiciest thing I had ever eaten in my life! Of course, I was only seven or eight. Now, I love them so much that´s all I will eat at my great grandparents´ house sometimes! I still don't know how my Grammy can just eat them out of a jar with no drink at all!I was about to go crazy when I saw her! I thought she would burn her mouth off! When we went over for Christmas Eve, she made some jalapeno poppers, and oh, were they good!…

Anne Allison points out an interesting point about the relationship between food and Japanese women in her article “Japanese Mothers and Obentos: The Lunch-Box as Ideological State Apparatus”. She has insightful and different point of view of obento, a japanese lunch box which are highly crafted elaborations of food, that it is endowed with “ideological and gendered meanings” under state ideology (155). That is, both mother and child are being watched, judged, and constructed by society since making a good obento may please her child and also affirm that she is a good mother, and child consuming their entire meal in a appropriate manner is considered well-taught. This social phenomenon represents that culture is constructed with power which exerts a force which operates in ways that are subtle, disguised, and accepted as everyday social practice.…

I would have to say that my favorite food by far would have to be my grandmother's famous gumbo. The way the shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and crab mix together its like a bowl of heaven. Her homemade Roux smells like Cajun spices chilling in a hot tube on a summer day. The savory smell of the buttery white rice cooking to perfection. The smell just wraps around your nose and kiss you softly. With the large amount of ingredients in gumbo, one wrong step will throw the whole creation off.…

Throughout my childhood I was convinced gnocchi were its own food group. I was sure that frantic gesturing with hands were crucial to making a point. I use to believe that Bocce ball was a game played at every family gathering. Growing up, food and family always went hand in hand. I thought that everyone's family was like this. It has taken me a long time to realize that this is the Italian way of living. Being raised in an Italian family is incredibly close to what you see in the movies. Everyone is loud, screaming and laughing and there is always plenty of food and wine to go around. While the food is what entices my family to gather around the kitchen table every night, it is the combination of the food and conversations that keeps…

There is a vast amount of pasta noodles that one can choose from; Penne, Bow Tie, and spaghetti just to name a few. Despite the fact that pasta is readily known as Italian food, “there is no way to establish precise regional boundaries of each species of pasta (Alexander 556).” There are at least 8 morphological classifications of Italian pasta.…

    My Favorite Food

After gaining an unappealing 3 or more pounds over the years, one would think that I would quickly learn to put down the tacos. However, when the opportunity rises for that scrumptious, slow simmered seasoned beef, crisp green lettuce, rose ripe red tomatoes, yellow aged cheddar and hard crunchy shells come across my path, I just can’t resist. I should have to say no-more, than “I LOVE TACOS”! Just typing these words reminds me of last Friday night, while preparing my tempting tacos; I recalled my first taco experience which was very bland and tasteless. To me an authentic taco should have a full blown blast of Mexican seasonings dancing around in your mouth. Mine are infused with a bold medley of 100% ground beef with ethnic seasonings, fresh cilantro, along with plenty of extremely tasteful toppings, and let us not forget the fresh flour tortilla fried shell, and a dollop of sour cream. However, several people simply prefer bland beef with cheese whiz, and a few shreds of lettuce. Later on that evening, we finally got to munch on those completely “NON” fat-free tacos, and we were in complete Heaven. The way we looked and the mess we made while eating them would probably shock most. However, we really indulge in the thought of “enjoying our food”, and sometimes you just have to dig in, and get dirty.…
