My Experience in English Composition
My experiences in this six-week English Composition-I class have been challenging and rewarding, as well as educating and developing. As far as challenging, I have only been able to attend half of the classes and therefore have only learned half as much as I could have learned otherwise. Although extenuating circumstances have kept me from attending every class, it has been a pleasure sitting under the teaching of the course instructor. As far as rewarding, I have been able to gain knowledge, understanding, and wisdom in the realm of the writing process. As far as educating, I have been informed of the basic foundation of the writing process. As far as developing, my confidence and skills have steadily improved. Over fourteen years ago, I took English Composition-I for the first time. I attended every class, wrote descent papers, and completed all of my homework. I managed to get a high grade in the class. However, since those days, I have lost touch with the fundamentals of English Composition. I am retaking a full academic year of English Composition for mainly two reasons: First, I need the courses as prerequisites for admission into a foreign medical school, which prefer higher grades. Secondly, I need to improve my writing skills for the Medical College Aptitude Testing (MCAT) writing sample. Taking English Composition-I for the second time has been a rejuvenating experience. Relearning the precious essentials of English Composition-I have caused me to be a better writer. There have been several highlights in the class that have made the experience better: The insight and enthusiasm of the instructor; the hand-chosen homework assignments; the concepts of the standard composition textbook; the illustrative stories of The Longman Reader; the detailed look into process analysis; the peer review practice; and, the revising, editing and reflections have been priceless. I believe these elements of English Composition-I have adequately prepared me for English

Writing 121, English Composition, teaches you college-level writing skills, the kind you will need for essay assignments, term papers, and exams, as well as perhaps your own further explorations into your writing talents. We’ll read, identify and write the four classic forms of essays, also called “modes of discourse” — e.g., expository, descriptive, narrative, and argumentative (traditionally nicknamed EDNA). Most importantly, though, we’ll study and practice the writing process, how to select and narrow a topic, how to generate and organize ideas, and how to revise drafts.…

This class has taught me many things about myself along with many necessary skills needed while writing. I know now that, through hard work and determination, I can achieve what I might think to be impossible. While reflecting back on my initial writing abilities, I see the weak, uneducated style of writing. Each essay shows my progression and improvement, and, after a while, the class began to become much easier. Today, after practicing throughout my essays this semester, I believe that I, in fact, have…

Students are expected to read critically, think analytically, and communicate clearly both in writing and speech, which form the “basis for academic and professional communication.” The purpose of this course is to emphasize “expository, analytical, and argumentative writing” based on selected readings…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

Over the course of the past three months, I have had the distinct pleasure of testing my writing capabilities through the Introduction to College Writing course. I have always had a passion for writing in all forms, but in previous years, the course work in grade-level English classes have been unchallenging of my writing ability. I have been heavily involved in Bonneville High School’s newspaper through journalism since my freshman year. This allowed me to strengthen my writing capability as I was drafting throughout the entire school year. I have never truly had to apply myself until I enrolled in English 101. Since the beginning of the class, I have faced various hardships while writing essays in unfamiliar styles, such as drafting a response to a scholarly article and synthesizing opposing perspectives. I have learned that I am more than capable in writing in different styles and that all of my work will be quality content regardless of the topic. I overcame the obstacles that have challenged me, and my essays exhibit that I am fully prepared to continue my work in English 102.…

I am glad that I took this composition course. Before I took this class, I would say that I was just an average writer. I took this class in hopes that I would learn more about writing and learn new skills that I can apply to my writing process. I have only been in this class for one quarter, but I would say that I am a much better writer than I was before I took this class. I have learned new skills that expand my writing above the level it was. I have also learned more about myself as a writer and what is working and what is not working with my writing process.…

Opportunities are a much-debated topic in that it affects everybody in their daily lives. Some people criticize the importance of opportunities, who argue that without knowledge and skill the opportunities are doomed to slip away. They believe that knowledge and skill are more important than opportunities. But people who advocate the importance of opportunities, on the other hand, argue that opportunities are the most important factor in their lives. Without opportunities, they would not succeed in business.…
