My Dream Job
Most of the time, what a child wants to be when they grow up changes several times over the course of their life, before they finally settle on a job, that either is or isn’t what they really had wanted, or planned on. This is not the case with me. I have wanted to be a hairstylist and own my own hair salon since I was a little girl. My dream started because I wanted to be like my dad, who has his own barber shop, but the reasons have changed since I’ve became a woman. My reasons for wanting to be a hairstylist with my own salon now are; I’m passionate about making people feel good about themselves physically and boosting their self-confidence, I’m very creative and I love to make my own hairstyles and keep up with the latest fashions, it’s a very lucrative profession with a lot of exciting opportunities, and I would love to be my own boss.
Right now, I’m going to school to earn my Associate’s Degree in Business. I decided to do this because I can go to school from home, and it just fits better with my schedule right now. I want to learn everything there is to know about opening and running my own business while in pursuit of my degree, and then when I’m finished I want to go to the Pinnacle Institute in Mooresville, NC to earn my Cosmetology license. I chose this school because it is the closest cosmetology school to where I live, which is Denver, NC. It takes 46 weeks, or 1500 hours, at the Pinnacle Institute to earn a Cosmetology license and I can get financial aid to help me pay for it through the Pinnacle Institute, kind of like I’m doing now to earn my Associates Degree in Business. (Institute, 2008-2013)
Through my research done on the career of Cosmetology I’ve learned that people who are interested in this line of work tend to like activities that include creating, designing, and making your own rules. (Development, 2013) This
