Do all of you know how most grocery stores have at least one lane dedicated to customers that have 10 or 20 items or less? It is usually referred to as the “fast lane.” The purpose of it, is so that the customers that don’t have a ton of groceries, don’t get stuck waiting behind the customers that do. Of coarse, there always has to be at least one person who acts like they didn’t see the sign or something.
A couple weeks ago, I was listening to 99.1 The Mix while I was at work. Apparently, a similar situation happened at a grocery store in Waukesha, WI. It was about 5pm, so of coarse the store was packed with everybody on their way home from work. Everyone is in a hurry, anxious to get home for the day. A woman with a cart full of items entered the “fast lane.” The man that was in front of her turned around and said “What, can’t you read? The sign says 20 items or less!” The woman then replied, “Why don’t you turn around and mind your own business?” The man then persisted to call the woman something along the lines of “a fat slob.” The woman in turn, picked up her cell phone and dialed 911. The police ended up coming to the store and issuing the man a citation for disorderly conduct. Do any of you think that’s right? Shouldn’t it have been freedom of speech? The man never swore at her, he just voiced his opinion. I don’t know about you guys, but there have been a few times where I had to refrain myself from saying something in similar situations. I personally think it was wrong that the officer gave him a citation. I mean, the lady dialed 911 in a situation that I wouldn’t consider an emergency. Shouldn’t there be consequences for that? When it comes to freedom of speech, I think that there should be some, but few, limits. For example, when it involves swearing, or something that is inappropriate for or around children, I don’t think that it’s right. Unfortunately, these days we can’t really
