MacBeth

The not so “Ideal” wife “Glamis thou art, and Cawdor, and shalt be what thou art promised. Yet for I fear thy nature; It is too full o’th’ milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way” (Shakespeare 1.5.12-15). Lady Macbeth is the bad influence Macbeth has in his life that persuades him into killing King Duncan and rushes into being King. Before Macbeth became paranoid after the brutal death of King Duncan, he was a worthy captain of the kings army. “The service and the loyalty I owe in doing it pays itself. Your Highness’ part is to receive our duties, and our duties are to your throne and state children and servants, which do but what they should by doing everything safe toward your honor and love” (Shakespeare 1.2.22-27). Lady Macbeth did not have the faith that a natural wife would have in her husband; she did not believe that Macbeth would go through with a successful plot based on his lack of courage. She used her own greed and selfishness basically do it for Macbeth “That with hath made them drunk hath made me bold: what hath quench’d them hath given me fire” (Shakespeare 2.1. 1-2). Most importantly, this statement clearly illustrates that is was Lady Macbeth that had the direct motive to kill Duncan because she wanted riches that came with the title that Macbeth would earn. However, her husband, even though he was promised the title of King, needed convincing in order to actually kill Duncan. Consequently, it was Lady Macbeth that convinced Macbeth to kill Duncan, plotted the murder secretly behind Macbeth’s back when she received his letter stating the three witches prophecies, and had the actual ambition to take action “Th’ atempt and not the deed confounds us. Hark!-I laid their daggers ready; He could not miss’em” (Shakespeare 2.2.10-13). Lady Macbeth would have also murdered Duncan herself, and completed the assassination without the foolish actions of Macbeth, but she could not actually go through with the
