In the article, How to Use the STAR Interview Response Technique, by Alison Doyle, she discusses how to properly use this technique during an interview. This particular technique is used to help the interviewee on how to properly answer questions. Basically, it gives them an idea of how to answer questions that are based on a person’s past experience. In the article, Doyle briefly discusses what the STAR process is. She describes the process as being a method used in answering behavioral interview questions. The interviewer wants to see how you will react to a question about your past and wants you to think of a time in which you had to deal with a customer, coworker, and etc.…
Returning back to school at 43 has been one of the most rewarding, yet the most challenging experience. It did not take me long before I knew that this was exactly where I was supposed to be and what I needed to continue to progress in my life. Attending to school was all I wanted to do and I attempted to return on many occasions but there were always trials and hurdles that at the time I could not climb.…
In the story “Graduation”, a young black girl feels anticipated and honored with her graduation day. However, on her graduation day, she feels frustrated and shadowy because Mr. Donleavy, a white man, delivers a speech to the graduating class of 1940. At first, Angelou is quite excited because she is proud of her academic achievements; besides that, she is also about to make a speech in front of many students. In addition, her mother also gives her a fancy dress with an abundance of embroideries and frills. Furthermore, many people also praise her of her wisdom. When Mr. Donleavy makes his speech, Angelou feels disappointed and bitter because his speech includes too much racism. In the uninspired speech, he says a little improvement will be done in black school, while a lot advanced equipment is offered in Central School (a white school). He also mentioned that all the black should pursue is those jobs at the bottom of the society such as maids and farmers.…
It was the day that I was dreading all week. It was the day my brother was leaving for college. Since the day i was born me and my older brother have been really close. We liked the same things, hung out with the same people, and played on the same sports teams. We did everything together. As time went on nothing really changed even through high school we were still really close. The day he was leaving for college I was at my friends house and didn’t want to go home until the minute he was leaving. I didn’t want to see him until he left because i knew it was going to be hard for me to watch him leave so i figured if i didn’t see him until he said bye it wouldn’t be as bad. Another part of me also didn’t want to show him weakness, that i was…
Today, many students are beginning to work while in college. Over the past few years, tuition, room and board, and other school expenses have become more and more expensive. There are many types of financial aid available, such as loans, government grants, and scholarships that could help me pay for my college education. However, some of us are not lucky enough to receive “free money” from the government or a scholarship. For people like me who need to take out a loan in order to get through college, a job is necessary to make the monthly payments. I recently started my first semester in college to hopefully major in business administration in a couple years. I also got myself a part-time job managing finances at my brother’s body shop to pay for some expenses and carry some extra money. Through my experiences combining work and college, I have noticed there are many struggles, great ways to manage those struggles, and great benefits,…

College is an open door to many opportunities especially for someone like me who comes from a conservative culture in which most believe the working field is not for women. Times have changed and yet an employed woman is looked down upon. Many girls dream about having a bright future only to see it shatter once they become older and their opportunities are seized. I want to be able to beat the odds and go against the old-fashioned beliefs of my culture. To do so I need to achieve a higher education. I am planning on attending a community college to receive my two years of general education and then graduate to a university to major in physical therapy. I have excelled in high school, will continue to do so in college, and be able to graduate from college.…
I like to think that after high school you can just go and be free from school for a while. When you’re finished with high school sometimes it can be overwhelming to think of going back to school again. When some students finish high school some are not ready to leave home, some want an income before acquiring debt, and some would like a job that is a trade that requires no college.…
For a while I have been wondering what I should do after I graduate high school. I have different alternatives but am still stuck on reaching my conclusion. There are so many different things to do after you turn 18 and graduate high school. It is very hard coming to a conclusion on just one thing that you think that is the best for you. I have to see while making my decision what my opportunity cost is going to be and see what outweighs the costs and benefits. The things that it took into consideration as my criteria are cost, transportation, location and how well the program is in the college that fits my career. My alternatives for what I am going to after graduation are to go to an out of state college, attend an in state college, work part time and still attend college or take a year off then attend school.…
Lately, I find myself thinking about college and life after college more and more as I grow older. Because of this I realized that to achieve my various goals I need to set a pathway that will help me reach them. I am a rising 9th grader and I get asked those certain questions almost every day, things like “what classes are you taking in high school?” or “what do you want to be when you grow up?” or even the “what college do you want to go to?”. These questions have really made me think about life and what I want to do and I only have one answer, I'm not sure. For this reason I was very excited about the prospect of using CFNC to try and form an idea about my future. In the basic skills survey my highest skill was identified…
Is it necessary to get a college degree in today’s society? Millions of adults ask their self the same question day after day. Returning to college in today’s busy world creates many challenges for adult students, however the value of a brighter future makes it all worth the while.…
I had to dig deep for this! Dig deep to figure out what big problems I faced throughout these past years. It wasn't easy for me because I faced many difficulties throughout my life. Then I remember a time in my first 2 years of high school. I was oblivious. Confuse about my future. Whether I wanted to do something after high school. I have to admit school wasn't my priority in freshman year. I wouldn't get the best grade, but they weren't the worst either. All I cared about is having friends. Then something hit me. Seeing all these seniors not graduate on time. Seeing many kids struggle financially after high school. I eventually notice that those who go to college succeed more. Especially being a minority it's extremely difficult to succeed…
The road for my junior year was definitely somewhere in Georgia on a dirt path through the hills, a bump doesn’t really do it justice. To Begin this year was not the greatest at home, my parents and I got into it a few times one of which ended in me attempting to live independently, getting my first job, and having to return home. A few weeks later a night when going out with two of my buddies, we came back to our car getting robbed startling the robbers as we approached they began shooting at us and my friend took a bullet to the stomach luckily missing his main organs, he recovered well and is doing great now. This shook my focus on school and oriented it more to figuring out what life was about and finding peace with it after seeing such terror. These events over that school year effectively killed my academic motivation…
