Kentucky Social Influences

Today many more students are graduating from high school and heading straight to college rather than graduating and heading straight to the working field, but why? One question that has resonated in my mind since high school is why exactly do we go to college? For my final project, I plan to gather research and analyze the real reasons why students go to college as well as why students decided to attend Northern Kentucky University rather than any other college. I picked this topic of analyzing how social influence plays a role in making a major life decision (such as going to college) because it is very applicable to my life as well as the rest of students. Also, I am extremely interested in understanding more about the pressures society has placed on my generation today to go to college; I know I definitely felt these societal pressures when planning to attend college. I also was extremely hesitant and resistant when it came to deciding to attend Northern Kentucky University. Obviously something persuaded me to attend college (beyond my own desire to further my education) and specifically attend Northern Kentucky University, or else I wouldn’t be here typing this proposal today.
For my final project I plan on using surveys to conduct my research; from these surveys I will analyze why students chose to attend college and attend
In experiments conducted by Below (2013) and Scholz (2013) both exemplified great examples of ways to conduct research to find social influence determining and affecting important life decisions; Below (2013) tested peer pressure and consuming alcohol and Scholz (2013) tested the likeliness to begin dieting.
