Nero Claudius Caesar, was born under the name Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, in the year 37 AD and was adopted by his uncle, Emperor Claudius. Nero’s mother had married Claudius after the death of her late husband. She later killed poised Claudius, leaving the throne wide open for 17 year old Nero. In his 5 years as emperor, Nero became highly disliked by both his citizens and fellow members of the Roman government. Nero is probably the most infamous Roman emperor, as he had assassinated his wife, mother along with numerous other people assassinated. He is also infamously known for his widespread massacre of Christians, which he blamed for the great Roman fire. He committed suicide, when he realized that everyone was against him in 68…

“Men may construe things after their fashion, / clean from the purpose of the things themselves” (1.3.34-35) says Cicero. People often interpret signs in a way that will benefit them, but instead of warning what might happen, the problems, the wrong interpretation can lead to bad events. In Julius Caesar, Shakespeare shows through a series of events that being careful is important. The characters’ situational misinterpretations show that by misunderstanding the signs and their warnings, chaos can happen.…

In the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare shows how friends often betray each other. Julius Caesar is about to be crowned king of Rome, when some well-known Romans decide that it is not a good idea for this to happen. They form a conspiracy and kill Caesar. Brutus, an honorable Roman and a very good friend of Caesar's, betrays Caesar by killing him for the good of Rome. Antony, Caesar's best friend and another honorable Roman, betrays Brutus by turning against the conspirators. Cassius, a respected Roman, and Brutus betray each other by arguing and destroying their friendship. All this betraying lead to many deaths in the play.…

Julius Ceasar is a tragedy by William Shakespeare that is believed to have been written in 1599. It portrays the conspiracy against the Roman dictator Julius Caesar, his struggle between the demands of patriotism, honor, and friendship, and his assassination. It is one of several Roman plays that Shakespeare wrote that are based on true events from Roman history. After watching two films about Julius Ceasar, one made in 1953 and one made in 1970, I personally believe that the 1970 version best meets my own mental idea of the play.…

I sighed and leaned back into my seat. It made a squeaky noise. I had just been given as assignment where I needed to write about a person who had made a great influence in my life. As I sat silently and listened in my seat, my mind went racing to the past, searching for ideas and digging up precious memories. It had been years since I looked back at those memories but I still remember them. By the end of class that day, I had already decided on whom to write about. I remember that momentous time in my life like it was yesterday.…

The art of persuasion dates back to before the time of William Shakespeare and Julius Caesar and has been used excessively in literature throughout history. The art of persuasion has no boundaries, anyone may use it. It does not matter their social or economic status. Though the method used may be different, the goal is always the same, to get the subject to support the cause at hand. It encourages them to think or behave in a certain way, perhaps to change their opinion, or to make them believe as the persuader wants them to believe. Throughout William Shakespeare’s Tragedy of Julius Caesar, there is an uncountable amount of flattery and persuasion. Cassius uses flattery to persuade Brutus to join the Conspiracy, Decius uses flattery when speaking with Caesar to persuade Caesar to agree with him, and Antony uses persuasive language to flatter Brutus into doing what he wants. Language is a strong factor in persuading both readers and characters in the Tragedy of Julius Caesar.…

From a rhythmic perspective, the trochaic feel of this opening immediately commands attention. The succession of hard stresses is also Shakespeare's way of using the verse to help Antony cut through the din of the crowd. Antony also echoes the opening line that Brutus uses ("Romans, countrymen, and lovers!"), but conspicuously rearranges it; where Brutus begins with "Romans" to reflect his appeal to their reason, Antony begins with "friends," which reflects the more emotional tact he will take throughout the rest of his speech. Remember also that Antony has entered the Forum with Caesar's body in tow and will use the corpse as a prop throughout his oration.…
