Physico-Chemical Characterization of Rubber Seed Oil (Hevea Brasiliensis) - A Promising Feedstock for Biodiesel Production
VN Meena Devi*1, P Nagendra Prasad2, L Arul Mary Syndia2 , M Rajakohila1 , and VN Ariharan2 *1Department of Physics, Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, Noorul Islam University, Kumaracoil, Thuckalay – 629 180, Tamilnadu, India 2Department of Biotechnology, Sri Paramakalyani College, Alwarkurichi – 627412, Tirunelveli District, Tamilnadu. India In India, the main source of energy is obtained from fossil fuels and the demand for energy is keeps on increasing. The depleting petroleum fuel resources, price hike, non-renewable nature and the emission of pollutant urges the need for the development of an alternative source of fuel which could be easily available, economic and eco-friendly. One among the alternative renewable fuel is “Biodiesel” which is obtained from vegetable oils. Biodiesel is biodegradable, easily available and also offers lubricity which extends engine life. There are about 400 oil yielding crops in India. In India, Rubber tree is primarily cultivated for it latex. But it’s by product namely the Rubber seed oil is not utilized much. In the present study, the physico-chemical properties of rubber seed oil for the potentiality for the production of biodiesel and it was found to be efficient biodiesel resources which meets the ASTM standard for biodiesel . The rubber oil cake was analyzed and it was found to control the weeds, diseases and it is an efficient biofertilizer. Keywords: Biodiesel, Rubber Seed Oil, Physico-Chemical Properties, Rubber Oil Cake, Blends-B10, B20.

INTRODUCTION
In recent years, the use of biodiesel as alternative source of fuel has been extensively investigated with the objective of ensuring energy security and reducing the environmental impacts of fossil fuel emissions. The biodiesel from

1.0 IntroductionBiodiesel is defined as mono-alky esters of long -chain fatty acid. It is a fuel that derived from the vegetable oils, animal fats, which is similar to the diesel fuel except that it is made from the crops. It is produced from domestically grown, renewable sources, such as crop oils or animal fats which are then chemically converted into biodiesel (Habmigren, 2003). Unlike diesel, biodiesel contains no petroleum products and free of sulfur compounds and aromatics (Habmigren, 2003). Until today, it is still the only alternative fuel for motor vehicle. The biodiesel blends have ranged from 2/98% (B2), 20/80% (B20), to 100% (B100) (Hafman, 2003). The reasons biodiesel is a viable alternative to diesel from fossil fuels for trucks and buses are it can reduce the pollution, it can enhance the country's economy, and it is renewable sources and can produce almost same energy as diesel fuels.…

In this lab the synthesis, purification, and characterization of isoamyl acetate, or banana oil, was determined. The synthesis was completed by a reversible esterification reaction which required the heating of glacial acetic acid and isoamyl alcohol, combined with a sulfuric acid catalyst in hexane. In order to increase the efficiency of the reaction, LeChatelier’s Principle is utilized by removing water from the products. As a result, the reaction as a whole shifts the left producing more isoamyl acetate to try and balance the reaction once again. Once the product was collected, it was purified through means of fractional distillation. Finally to characterize the product, and assess its purity, IR and NMR spectroscopy were taken.…

Petroleum diesel is a fuel made from crude oil. Biodiesel is a fuel made from vegetable oils. To make biodiesel, large areas of land are needed to grow crops from which the vegetable oils are extracted. Large areas of forest are cleared by burning the trees to provide more land for growing these crops.…

Martin Luther King Jr., William J. Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama all have very effective speeches, indeed. They agree on racial equality and try to work their way towards their goal. All four speakers have strong arguments and stupendous methods in adressing the situation. Although these speeches were written in different time periods, to this day, they make a huge impact on everyone's lives. However, the speech given by Martin Luther King Jr. has the strongest argument and makes the most immense impact towards ending racial inequality.…

The purpose of this experiment was to produce isopentyl acetate, banana oil. Acetic acid and isoamyl alcohol were used to synthesize isopentyl acetate. The techniques used for the separation and purification of isopentyl acetate were reflux, liquid-liquid extraction, neutralization and distillation. The identification of isopentyl acetate was based on boiling points and an infrared spectrum. This experiment resulted in a 11.68% yield. The reactants and products of this reaction are in equilibrium, and therefore it was difficult to obtain a 100% yield.…

The distribution of pollution and lack of water access throughout the San Joaquin Valley is an issue of environmental justice because it disproportionately affects poor people and people of color. The term “environmental justice” represents both a movement and an idea. The idea of environmental justice is multifaceted. David Schlosberg, a political theorist and environmental justice scholar believes it contains three main aspects: distribution, recognition, and participation. Distribution refers to the fact that low-income communities and communities of color disproportionately face environmental burdens.…

The purpose of this experiment was to compare biodiesel to other fuels. The ecotoxicity of biodiesel was estimated, along with that of other biofuels through the germination of seeds in the presence of different concentrations of fuels. This resulted in biodiesel having an average of 79.4% germinated seeds in a 10% solution of fuel, compared to other fuels whose percentage of germinated seeds decreased with higher concentrations of fuel. In addition, biodiesel was also synthesized and its heat of combustion was found through the use of calorimetry. The heat capacity for the calorimeter was based on the heat of combustion for ethanol, which was then used to determine the heat of combustion for biodiesel. The average heat of combustion for biodiesel was ∆Hcomb= -13090.83 kJ/mole, as opposed to the theoretical value of -11496.6 kJ/mole, which resulted in a 13.9% difference. Furthermore, taking into consideration the ecotoxicity of biodiesel, its effect on the environment, and fuel efficiency, biodiesel proved to be the more favorable fuel relative to the other fuels tested. The goal of the experiment was to compare and determine the advantages of using biodiesel as a fuel as opposed to other fuels.…

Majority of the worlds energy needs are supplied through petrochemical sources, coal and natural gases, with the exception of hydroelectricity and nuclear energy. All these sources are finite and at current rate of usage these will be consumed shortly. The high energy demand in the industrialized world as well as in the domestic sector and pollution problems caused due to the widespread use of fossil fuels make it increasingly necessary to develop the renewable energy sources of limitless duration and smaller environmental impact than the traditional one. As a result research and development for alternative sources to replace the petroleum-based fuels has started.…

Biodiesel fuel is made from natural and renewable resources. It can be manufactured from algae, vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant greases. Fresh soybean oil is most commonly used. In general they are made from fats and oils, which are hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons are filtered and mixed with an alcohol, such as methanol, and a catalyst, resulting in a chemical reaction whose major products are biodiesel fuel and glycerol.…
