If I Ruled the World -- English Speech
If I ruled the world:
“If I ruled the world…”; am I the only one that’s ever wondered what it’d be like? I feel like it’s one of those passing thoughts that seem to cross your mind, like why don’t English singers have an accent when they sing, or how the quote “head over heels” originated; since we’re head over heels normally? But, what I mean, is whenever you listen to the news on TV or on the radio and hear about an epidemic striking the world like the H1N1 flu or another war, don’t you ever feel like you could do a better job taking care of the earth? Right now it seems like everywhere around us, there’s something terrible that’s happening. Whether it is the war in Afghanistan or the clear-cutting of our precious rainforests, it seems that the world is collapsing upon itself. Personally, if I were the supreme ruler the world, I would just turn the mountains to chocolate and the trees to licorice to solve problem of the lack of food in the world. All joking aside, if I were to rule the world there would be three things in particular that I would change: elimination of all countries, enforce the freedom of speech, belief and sexuality, and the eradication of the class system. Well, when I say that I would like to abolish all countries, I feel as though some of you may think that that is ridiculous. For some people, their nation is their pride! Why take it away? Well a country is a piece of land surrounded by boundaries, which separate the countries. There are people dying for their land, and while it is honorable, it is not completely necessary. In fact, if the whole world was one nation, there would be no need to die for your country. We’re all human right? We all live on the same planet. And since the separation of land throughout the world is the main cause of conflict and war, [such as the First World War; where it was basically caused because of nationalism, militarism and the need to gain territory], having one nation throughout the world would

At the beginning of her reign, Queen Elizabeth was resented, as many did not want to see a woman on the throne. Her advisors warned her not to appear before her armed soldiers, for fear that they would turn on her. Queen Elizabeth knew her audience and her public image well and, for this reason, urgently sought to pacify with her audience immediately and opened her speech with strong pathetic disarming rhetoric. With her address, “My loving people…” (Tudor), Elizabeth implied what their relationship was to her, making them beholden to her, and established a tone of affection, ownership, and responsibility.…

Benedict Anderson defined a nation as "an imagined political community - and imagined as both inherently limited and sovereign".[1] Members hold in their minds a mental image of their affinity: for example, the nationhood felt with other members of your nation when your "imagined community" participates in a larger event such as the Olympic Games. As Anderson puts it, a nation "is imagined because the members of even the smallest nation…

Affiliations such as this evoke unity amongst people and, when this affiliation is applied on a national level to a group of people that make up a country, nationalism is the result. Although some may argue that nationalism only created more division between those who held different viewpoints within a nation, this can be disproven by the overall benefit of unity through country and association with a certain country. Nationalism has the capability of joining large sums of people into nation-states, conquer empires in which power is distributed to the rich few while the majority of people are oppressed and played a significant role in the abundance of war in the 19th…

If humanity stopped for a second and readjusted its focus towards the future rather than money, wealth and happiness. Then, together humanity may overcome the insurmountable odds and create a better world, a peaceful world, a world to leave for its…

Hello, the topic I have chosen to talk to all of you about today is not only appealing but also particularly relevant to all of us in the room. The term ‘Child Abuse’ may seem straightforward to everyone here, but it isn’t so clear-cut, there are many other ‘sub-topics’ which branch out of child abuse like for example: Bullying and Child Neglection. It is often overlooked and taken as a joke by many people and communities, and this isn’t right at all – the abuse of children is an extremely solemn and serious topic… Child abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional mistreatment or neglect of a child or of children; and it is important for all of us to recognize the dangers, causes and effects of this unpleasant experience … because the miserable truth is that we have no insight into our futures … Who knows? Any one of us could be experiencing this cruelty now or may know people who are in this situation later on in their lives ……

If one would carefully analyze everything what has happened to humanity over the past 30 centuries he would see that so many mistakes were made by our leaders because of power-greed blinded eyes, and so many people were mistreated and suffered because of someone's sick will, that if it did not happen we would probably live in one of those utopian societies. However, I think that those things were only natural for the human world development “ as everyone makes mistakes in live and learns from them, it would be the same but on a bigger scale. It is naturally programmed in a human being to try to get more then he is able, even if it causes mistreatment of others. If all those things did not happen, we would not completely understand the importance of "golden rule in the world “ or the importance of treating other people as if we wo…

The year is 2040. There are no animals. Most of the other races are literally extinct. Poverty is what makes up the countries' population. Could you imagine the world? I couldn't. I would hate to live in a world where there is a stuggle to live. I would hate it even more if i did nothing but sit and watch. These thoughts are what drive my passions to try and change the world. I believe that if we all take a stand against these horrfying issues, we could make a change in the world, together.…

I would for people around the world to not be exceedingly greedy. In life, money in reality has no real value; we only believe it has value because we buy things with the money. However, in the sense of survival, money is actually only used for kindling. What I don’t understand is why billionaires and corporations demand more money when they are essentially making more money. For corporations, of course they have to make money; although the techniques they use are destroying the wellbeing of their workers. It truly hurts acknowledging that people are working in very poor conditions, for long working hours, for pennies a day. It is depressing how these people are forced to work for their survival; yet conglomerate corporations plainly ignore their conditions. I wish for these tactics to change; I want the United Nations to set international regulations on workers’ rights and conditions especially in developing countries. There needs to be change in this free market economy; because humans are more valuable than money. I also wish for the abolishment of slavery around the world. It may seem surprising, but in 2015, there are slaves in numerous countries around the world. In the modern day, human trafficking is the slavery of previous centuries. People are currently being traded around the world for ransom; and in turn, these people are used to work for them. This is truly an…

Throughout my life, I have read about utopian societies that have become dystopias. I have been exposed to totalitarian led communities, such as the society run in the novel 1984. Also, history provides me with examples of incidents that have happened from nations that have been ruled by a dictatorship. War, revolutions, and disdain for social hierarchies are all products of the previously mentioned societies. Human beings like to have control over their own life; however, some groups of individuals do not have the mental capacity to make sound decisions on their own. The contemporary United States is society run on a form of Democracy; yet, people in this society are still disdainful and strive for a perfect world. The flaws I see present in my country and the whole world are hatefulness to those who are different (lack of religious tolerance, drive for people to conform, etc.), disdain towards unequal opportunities, and complete devotion to materialistic items. In order to combat the flaws of the totalitarian nations and the current imperfections of the United States, I propose a perfect society that upholds three core principles throughout the world: equal opportunities for all, abolishment of materialism, and religious freedom.…

Not many of us would, but people should actually think of taking action for a better planet. Jensen argues, that people doing minuscule things in their life will not do anything towards saving the planet, it only makes them feel better about themselves, things like recycling, taking shorter showers, driving half as much, and using less electricity. Industrial civilization is still killing our planet regardless of our options we lose. He writes, “The second problem—and this is another big one—is that it incorrectly assigns blame to the individual (and most especially to individuals who are particularly powerless) instead of to those who actually wield power in this system and to the system itself,” so he says that the people in power wrongly blame the people they control in which would be the average person for the dying of the planet, when those in control are the real problem. Every person is entitled to do what they want to do a few changes would not save our planet from being harmed and destroyed. We need to abolish all the things that are harming our…

Although nationalism once played a very progressive role, yet in hands of industrial powers of the world it has done greater harm than good. An atmosphere of nervous hostility rules the world which resembles nothing so much as a cigarette that is thrown onto the grass and may explode with a single spark. World public opinion is getting against it, because it is based on emotions which are very dangerous when dealing with modern civilization. The world has begun to realize the urgent need of replacing international anarchy by international order. If mankind is to save itself from the catastrophe which awaits it, then humanity should replace national exclusiveness by international inclusiveness. The concept of internationalism is coming into our minds. People should now stop thinking themselves as Indians or Americans. They should think in terms of the whole human race. Time has come when the people are to make a choice between international co-operation, and disaster caused by nationalism. We must now adjust our nationalism to a perspective of international brotherhood. Internationalism stands for a family of self- governing nations linked to each other by bonds of good will, cooperation and assistance. As ideal internationalism is certainly nobler than nationalism because the good of humanity is far higher than the welfare of a particular country or a community, different parts of the world have been brought so close to one another that we do not feel apart and it appears as if we belonged to one great common group. To bring about international peace and order, different nations must discard mutual hatred and jealousy. It will be in the interest of the human race to create a common international authority of one form or another; and that we should embrace internationalism for the good of separate countries, and for the good of the world, as one.…

The United States of America used to be considered a place that immigrants could travel to in order to find new opportunities, acceptance, and a better life. However, the English Unity Act of 2017-if it becomes a law-will make it much harder for for non-English speakers, especially immigrants, to have a part in American society, including voting, finding jobs, and gaining an education. This act will make English the official language of the U.S.A. Language is a part of everyday life and is much more than a means of communicating with other people; it is part of one's culture and ties people together. The world would not be complete without its many languages, so one language, though dominant in an area, should not be forced on all the other…

Everyone could make a world in their head where it's perfect, but that will never happen because some people thrive on conflict. Even in 500 BC conflicts happened. In ancient Rome, they had many conflicts, one being Rome trying to conquer Italy and control them completely. This turned out being a very brutal end for Italy. Hitler was someone that wanted to rule the world. He was the one who started world war two, he invaded Poland with his German forces, but France and the UK declared war on them on September 3, 1939, they only went to war because Poland made an alliance with France, UK, and Belgium. World war one started because of alliances just like most wars. In 1914 France, Britain, and Russia formed an alliance group against Germany and Austria-Hungary, the others picked their side that they felt was going to benefit them the most. Our history has a lot to say about our future, we went back when the Romans had conflicts and when Hitler was in charge. It seems clear that we can go back many years, and we would still have some type of war in the world going on. If the world is going to change it will have to change the way leaders think and act…
