The Ottoman Empire was one of the first major Islamic powers. It was also one of the longest ruling empires over the six hundred years. In present day Turkey, while at its highest, one of the largest ruling empires controlled regions of Europe, Egypt, Balkan, and Northern Africa. The Ottoman Empire was known for its language combined with basic vocabulary and grammar in Turkish along with the Arabic language spoken by villagers.
The Ottoman Empire’s military consisted of Horse Soldiers and Foot Soldiers or Janissaries. Their military was very powerful. Janissaries consisted of male Christian prisoners of the war that were trained and taught how to become military slaves. Since they didn’t have personal ties to people in the Ottoman Empire, they were allowed to be completely invested in protecting the Sultan. The cavalry was supported by some land grants and would stay in order, collect taxes and campaign. The Ottoman Empire was led by the Conqueror Sultan Mehmed II. In 1453, the Constantinople was taken down as one of the largest and most powerful cities. As the Constantinople was taken down, this made the Ottoman Empire seem invincible. After the Ottoman Empire gained all control of the Constantinople, the Sultan then converted all of the Christian churches into Islamic Mosque. This then declared that Islam was going to be the main religion. Even though Islam was the main religion, there were still some religions practiced in the city even after the Ottoman Empire took
