New Year is coming; many of my friends have made a plan of where to go and what to do. Some go to Taipei attending the countdown party nearby Taipei 101. Some go home to enjoy the delight wither their family, and so do I. It seems that everywhere is full of joyful atmosphere. However, I got a bad news recently that my mother told my father’s company asked him to be on a business trip to Indonesia for three weeks. I think it is pity that I cannot share the happiness of the New Year with my father.
I remembered that when I was ten years old, I cried very hard as soon as I got the news that my father was asked to be on a business trip to China by his company for two months. At that time, I supposed that the business trip was just an excuse of my father. The real purpose was that he wanted to abandon the family and leave us alone. Therefore, I hugged his leg and begged my father not to go to China. I don’t know why I have such that stupid thought at that time. Maybe I saw much news about business men who go to china and have an affair with young girls in China and never come back to Taiwan again. I never forget this funny and embarrassed memory until now. Fortunately, my father came back to Taiwan safely at that time. And now he is still being a good father and does his best to give us a comfortable life and a warm home.
I hope that my father will finish the business trip safely as usual. And I also look forward to sharing the trip with

Gazing out of the airplane window, I saw the words Mei Guo— “beautiful country” in Chinese—painted on the airport terminal. My mother and I immigrated to America when I was a small child from Taishan, China. She aimed to remove me from a life where society would limit my options and ostracize me due to my father’s blindness from Retinitis Pigmentosa and the family’s lack of proper education. My father was willing to let go of his only child because he, too, knew it would open infinite opportunities for me to succeed. Though my new life in America seemed prosperous at first, I soon realized I needed to create opportunities for myself despite our lack of resources.…

American ethnic literature can be identified as literature written by an American author who writes about cultural issues in America. “Native born individuals whose literary careers are pursued in the United States and whose work reflects American themes and issues (however broadly defined) indisputably qualify as American writers” (McQuade, Atwan, & Banta, 1999, p.2811). Being native born in America does not mean however that these authors did not grow up in a culturally rich environment. America is a melting pot of sorts for all cultures; in that manner an author who was born here can still be raised with a culturally diverse background and chooses to write about it. These are the stories that would make up American ethnic literature.…

False memories are memories of events or situations that did not, in fact, occur. These recollections of past events are unintentionally false. Often times, it may result from a questioned phrased differently, or a story told often enough that the person begins to believe that it actually happened recalling these events in depth. When asked what happened, they will be able to give vivid descriptions and details of what they remember occurred; however, in reality, these events never truly happened. Reality monitoring is used to help determine what is real from what someone may have just imagined happened. Also included in false memory is the concept of source amnesia. This occurs when one is able to remember the events or information correctly but unable to identify the source of where the information came from correctly. False memories can have a large impact on our lives and must be looked at when addressing the following question:…

The research of false memory syndrome was a newly emerged field of study in the early 1900s. Recent studies have established the proneness of the brain’s ability to misconstrue information to fit what relates to an individual's surroundings. Although psychologists have already confirmed the malleability of the human mind, the question arises of how and why false memories are created (Laney & Loftus 2013). False memory syndrome describes “a condition in which a person has an apparent recollection of an event that did not actually occur” (Dictionary). The conflicting ideas on the creation of these false memories has created a divide in psychologists since the mid 1900s (Laney & Loftus 2013). Through years of minimal studies, experimental methods have focused on the influence of hypnosis in the creation of memories. As studies have progressed however, the focus has moved to an individual's past traumatic events along with their cognitive fantasy proneness…
