These effects include a social change of unifying people across the world of the same and different genders, a cultural change of a strong passionate desire to beat the other countries to win the gold, and an economic change of the Olympics costing billions of dollars to the host city.…

Even with the Olympic games being hosted in Seoul, none of their companies were selected as top sponsors. “Korean companies are not on the list. All nine countries in attendance were on board, and they agreed to have the first Olympics be held in Athens, Greece. The nine countries had to convince Pierre de Coubertin to have them held in Greece, because the Frenchman was originally hoping to have the first one held in his country, France. With that being said, when the first Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece the worldwide appeal began. Starting in 1896, the host country, Greece, realized the political, economic, and social effects that an event with worldwide appeal could have on not only their city, but their country. The Olympics have come a long way though the years in terms of organization and popularity. There have been four phases of infrastructure impact on cities hosting the Olympic Games. Phase 1 was from 1896 to 1904. The Olympic Games were small and poorly…

An athlete stands alone, the crowd cheering; finally all of their hard work has paid off, and the stars align to send a bright beam of glory and honor for the winning athlete to soak in. The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece, on April 6, 1896. However, the ancient Olympic Games were established during the Geometric period (900-700 BCE), and were greatly influenced by the Dorians, one of the four major ethnic groups of Greece. The Dorians were extremely vigorous, warlike, and they possessed a highly developed sense of competition. Perhaps this is the reason that athletics was founded upon their influence on Greek society.…

The 1936 Olympics have become a mere footnote in history, remembered mostly for the heroics of Jesse Owens. The events that followed in Germany, namely the Holocaust and World War II overshadowed the Berlin games. However, it is very important to note that a world gathering like the Olympics could take place in a country that was in the process of eliminating an entire race of people. These games were used by the Nazis as a huge propaganda effort for Germany to show to the rest of the world that they had again become a powerful nation under the leader of the Adolf Hitler. The games were a huge success in this regard, the Nazi regime was able to fool and world and prove to Germany that they were everything the Nazi had said. But did the Olympic Games have any effect on the chain of events that led up the Holocaust and World War II?…

The games served as a competition between the Greek cities. The first Olympic Games were held in 776 BCE in Olympia, Athens and the tradition lasted for more than 1,000 years. In ancient times, the Olympic events included a race in armor, boxing and pentathlon. It wasn’t until 1,500 years later, in 1896 when the Olympic Games were revived. Not only were the games reborn, but over time, a lot of the things the Greeks did for the games have been incorporated back into the games. For instance, the lighting of the torch is in honour of the flame that Ancient Greeks used to light on an altar in the sanctuary of Olympia (where the Ancient Olympic Games took place) for Hestia, goddess of hearth. One other example is that with the Ancient Olympic games, Greek cities would all agree to a truce to stop all combat one month before and during the Olympic Games to allow for competitors and spectators to travel to Olympia and travel back home. Even to this day, countries agree to peaceful affairs for the Olympics. The Olympic Games may have been stopped thousands of years ago however they were reestablished and now continue to be part of the world's love competition and sports. It is just another example an Ancient Greece’s legacy that continues to impact the modern…
