Diversity In The United States
Diversity - di•ver•si•ty (noun) : the condition of having or being composed of differing elements : variety : the inclusion of different types of people (as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
The United States gotten increasingly diverse over the past 50 years. In 1965 the
American population was 84% white, and only 3% of congress was made up people of color. Today the American population is 62% white, and 17% of congress is made up of people of color. Although there is still a long way to go before the United States embraces all of it’s people, this is a drastic improvement. So, by taking the time to educate ourselves about these diverse types of people, beliefs, and values, we will be exposed to different ideas and ways of thinking. America will become more open-minded, understanding, and accepting. Seeking diversity truly leads to seeking solutions.
Lastly, respect diversity. President Ronald Reagan once said “[We] come from every part of this vast continent, from every continent, to live in harmony, seeking a place where each cultural heritage is respected , each is valued for its diverse strengths and beauties and the richness it brings to our lives.” We need work towards to making our amazing, powerful country a place where it is safe to be different. “Great power must be used for great purposes,” said Franklin D. Roosevelt. As long as we respect each other we have the opportunity to live in harmony. But after we expose ourselves to diverse beliefs and people, we must remember that acceptance is key. There is no point in educating yourself about differences only to contradict someone else’s. After all, we are all different in one way or another and we certainly don’t enjoy when others judge

Every American is entitled to the same rights and opportunities. No one should be afraid to be an American simply because of the things that make them diverse. In president Franklin D. Roosevelt’s State of the Union Message to Congress he says “Keep this nation great to make this Nation greater in a better world.”
In conclusion, the minority is becoming the majority. It is estimated that by the year 2055 no single racial or ethnic group will constitute the majority of the United
States. Most people will agree that increasing diversity in The United States makes it a better place to live. Progress depends on diverse views and voices, and The United
States is improving every day. In conclusion, in instances where we may become uncomfortable with diverse groups of people, we must apply the Golden Rule, “treat others the way you want to be treated,” and open our minds and hearts. Don’t follow the trends that may have been set by a celebrity or even a world leader of being insensitive and speaking out of ignorance. After all, doesn’t everyone desire for the future children in a America to live in a world of equality and
