Dags: Play Analysis
The play ‘Dags’ is based on the life of a young teenager going through the changes in life and facing everyday issues. The story line involves the struggles as a girl is growing up and discovering relationships with friends, boys and family. With the troubles of boys breaking up friendships and friendships breaking up family relationships, main character Gillian discovers what is really important and what is just a false expectation of reality.

My character in the production was a significant role and helped shape the personality of the main character. She helped improve and tell the story line. Monica was a young social cripple that was best friends with main character Gillian, and the two of them share each other’s thoughts on life and together share the same passion for food and hate for fake girls. Monica’s character is an important character to be able to understand the story line easier. With the two characters being able to share their life experiences and tell each other there problems it creates a relationship between them that reflects throughout the story. With the relationship becoming in jeopardy from the need of popularity and boys Gillian learns that friends are more about quality rather than quantity. My roles importance in the roll was not compulsory but does include a roll that makes the play come together more, and define the main characters personality and lifestyle further.

There are many different choices that have been made to the set to alter the effects of the how the play is presented. The stage was set out in a professional manner with the use of props being very creative. The use of the area being divided into three separate stage areas made the use of scene changing easier and helped the audience to understand the setting. The stage that we were provided with for the production had very limited space and little room to work with but we used what we had well. The costumes that were use were very simple and effective. With majority of the play being in school uniform, all of the uniforms were easy to provide. The uniform represents the characters and how they are all coming together at a school involved site and all have to experience their own problems in their teenage lives.

The lighting throughout the lay was well organised but small areas were left for improvement. The most effective areas were the stoplight and the colourful lights. The sounding was organised very well also with the use of sound effects were very important to add a higher effect and create a more understanding scene. I helped the audience to realise the different scenes and understand the story line.

The venue that was for the viewing of the production was of limited choices and was held at the local town hall. This venue was perfect for the small production that was being held and seated al of the audience. The provided lights and sounding options were perfect, and the backstage access was fantastic.
The acting that was presented in this production was done very well. I have never acted before and I did struggle to remember my lines, but with the help of the cast it was forgotten and covered up very well. I did not use the right technique to learn my lines and with the nerves of first time acting I froze up and struggled to get my lines right. I was very nervous and paranoid of messing up and this affected my overall performance. Other than a few minor slip ups on words and a couple of forgotten lines it was overcome well and was overall a well-acted performance.

The production overall went well, with some minor staging issues then most difficult being the costumes of the main character Gillian having to change multiple times, with limited amount of time. The way her costumes were put could have been improved but still ended up working well overall. The set worked well and was very effectively. The actors in the production acted very professionally during rehearsals and during the production.

Our class worked well as a team and put together a good production. I am proud of how our team worked together and I believe that without the help of everyone this production wouldn’t have been possible.
I do believe we could have improved the attendance throughout the rehearsals and overall that would have improved the performance. Overall it was fantastic performance and lots of fun. It was a great experience and thanks to everyone in the production crew who helped make this possible.

Harrison’s stage directions gives the performers room to powerfully use the props and sets to symbolize the true feelings of each character. I experienced this from watching a production of “Stolen” by the Sydney Theatre Company. The five actors were always repositioning their beds in the institution across the stage to highlight how stability and security were unavailable to them in the ‘homes’, this also showed the emotional impact on each character of always feeling like they are hiding or on the run from authority figures. As an audience member I really felt each characters pain through the directors use of the elements of drama within the performance, it added a perception of realism and deepness to each characters aura.…

The set being compacted towards the edges of the stage with a large open area allowed the setting of the play to easily present a small country town, iconic locations within a town on the edges of the stage gave the ever present vision of a small town. The large open area in the centre of the stage was adaptable and used during various scenes, although most notably, the outback scenes presenting a large open space opening the space compared to other scenes and indicating the environment base of the play. The use of footage of sand falling in-between scenes represented that time consistently progressed within the play, with each event leading to the larger events growing in impact on the play. Due the complex stage design spotlighting was used to draw focus to the performers, coloured lighting was also incorporated for ambient effects during scenes. Blocking on the set was made minimal to avoid wandering into separate scene locations although using spotlights and lighting position as well as props such as empty chairs were used to emphasise divide in characters with character interacting closely in aggressive and intermit moments. An example of conflict causing both intimacy and aggressive monuments is during Alan attempting to persuade the character Veronica a member of the historical society whom was involved in pro-acknowledgement campaigning to join him after having turned the town against her, a chair is left empty as a divide between the character while Alan attacks her ideals however once Alan decides a more friendly approach they sit beside each other as Alan attempts to persuade her to side with him. During this scene conversation between the characters was fairly hostile and consider of Alan denouncing Veronica’s ideals as she struggled to fight back against Alan’s judgement, this resulted in Alan looking down on her and placing himself…

    Elphab Theatre Analysis

When I first saw the play I payed no attention to the costumes but enjoy the overall play, which mean that costume designers did a good job. According to professor Landis, she says that costumes should not be the main focus but improve the overall environment of the play. Once I look back to picture of the play, I start noticing costumes. I find it beautiful how all the characters wore emerald, lively clothing to add to the wonder of Emerald City. I also notice that Elphaba has the famous wiked witch hat but the costume designer made modification that make it appear like the orignial hat, but it looks more suiting to a beautiful younge women. This production used a lot of change of set design as well as the use of expensive effects. For instant, during the scene were there is flying monkeys, the audience not only see a million monkeys appearing as if they are going to take flight but the huge dragon on top of the stage comes alive. During this scene the light technicitan uses red lights on the stage and the background is Elsabub castle. The use of red lights, loud sounds, and the…

As soon as I entered the theatre, it was completely packed. Avenue Q Play Analysis

I like the set design of the play it looks realistic it seems like you are living in moment. For example, the wall was made of wood but the color contrast gave a realist impression. Also, the set design is important because it gives idea to audience where the setting of the play is located. Although the building in this play were relatively new, the original Broadway play set design was very worn out. In my opinion, if the play was old then the set design should look like the original Broadway play because on Avenue Q middle and lower class family leave. The apartment look like they leave on Avenue A. In additional, the costume is also important so the audience can figure out who they are. I think costume also show the personality of a character like upper, middle, and lower class and the costume designer of this play did great work. Especially, when two or three character wearing black cloths and the puppets were in red, blue, and green this shows the color…

The type of theatre that was used was a picture fame stage. The stage was fairly small but perfect for the production that was being put on. It was a simple theatre with a older look to it. The stage sat directly in front of the audience seating. The play space was also a little small but worked out great for the performance. The production was perfect the way it was setup.…

Though when I saw the play for the first time, I realized that the set that I saw was only a small part of the entire set. In addition to the the pox house that was set up with an amazing amount of detail with all of the little trinkets on the shelves, the lights and sound effects also added to the level of greatness. The colors of the lights would accurately match the mood of a scene or set the tone. This is essentially what lights are supposed to do in a play, but it is sometimes overlooked in small school productions. With regards to the sound effects, I was a bit taken aback by the real life aspect of it.…

The set was well made and fit the time period quite nicely, but I could not help but feel it could have used a few more props to give the audience a better sense of immersion. It was often hard to tell where the scene was, or if the characters had changed scenes or not. Using more props would also give more distinction between events and places, making the overall scenes more memorable. One of the strongest points in the play was the costumes. They all were extraordinarily well made, and looked authentic. Some of the notable mentions are Prince Pedro’s uniform, the watchmen’s uniforms, and all the costumes in the ball scene. The costumes helped the audience remember which characters are which, and make the play more memorable.…

I really enjoyed how minimalist the set was for this show because while the overall setting of the South was important, the interaction of the characters was made the focal point of the show. It was a good choice because it reinforced the theme of getting to know someone else’s side of the story that the play showcased. It also help aid the fact that the play was told in a flashback, and that all the events had already occurred. It was a good style choice for this…

Janet Moyles created the 'play spiral' Framework which encourages children to explore and learn new skills through structured and unstructured play. The spiral starts with practitioners letting the children explore the environment and resources through 'free play' and unstructured play, this gives them the opportunity to play and create their own rules and develop their own experiences. This is beneficial to practitioners as it allows them to observe the children and plan effectively in order to enhance play. The next part of the spiral is 'Mastery Play', this enables the children to rehearse and develop their play. They begin to enhance their play by using their imagination and beginning to understand how they think they should be using the…

For me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of this play was the set. John Lang’s choice of a minimalist stage allows the audience to focus on the themes in the play, allowing the audience to focus on the characters without the distraction of a large set. Without this distraction, the audience was able to see the amazing character development within the play. Othello, once an honorable man, eventually went so far as to kill his loving and devoted wife, all because of rumors and lies. The simple stage allowed us as an audience to notice details, mainly because there weren’t that many details on the…
