On the surface, the seven-member MGI team which comprised of Henry Tam and Dana Soiman – both current HBS MBA Students, Alex Sartakov – a Berklee College of Music student, Dav Clar – a MIT graduate student, and Alexander (Sasha) Gimpelson, Igor Tkachenko, and Roman Yakub – the MGI founders, seems like an ideal team, with each member bringing different experiences and technical skills to help with the business plan contest at HBS. However, as we will see in this paper, interpersonal dynamics, a lack of clear leadership, resulting in unclear team goals and individual roles, and a lack of healthy group norms, contribute to an ineffective team process at MGI. With the deadline less than three weeks away and the team without even a first draft of the business plan, Henry is certain that the team would not meet the deadline if it continued to function as it had so far.…

    Winning Isn't Everything

A well-known football coach once said, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” This is the motto that many of the sport athletes we see on television and on the field live by. This motto can be a good motto or a bad motto to live by. I disagree with the statement “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing. There are many reasons that I could agree that the quotation is incorrect, but today I am going to argue three of my major points why this is incorrect. First, I believe that as long as you put your best foot forth then your always a winner, second, I believe that sometimes you need to loose to show you who you really and what you can do and to win you must loose and loosing motivates you to do better and makes you a greater team. To begin with, I believe that it is ok to loose sometimes as long as you know that you know you put your best foot first. Well some may ask the question well what do you mean by that? Well what I mean by that is your not always going to win but as long that you know that you put everything it to winning the game then you know that you are successful and there is nothing else you could have done to win the game. You can’t just use this quote just in sport, but this quote can apply to everything that happens in your life time. Many people go on different journeys throughout life and are successful. Most of the time you are never successful on your first try but if you give up the first time that you fail then you will never accomplish anything. For example Michael Jordan missed 62 free throw shots before he actually made 258 free throw shots. Well, you may ask the question why do you tell me this? Well I’m glad you asked I tell you this because if Michael Jordan who is one of the best basketball players that ever existed would have gave up because he missed 62 shots then he would have never made it to make the 258 shots that he made. So I can’t stress it enough how important it is not to give up when you fail the first time.…
