My friend Dominique is the most amazing friend anybody could ask for. We’ve been through so much together, we’re basically like sisters. We met on the first day of school when I was in the sixth grade and she was in the seventh grade. She was having trouble finding a class because she was the new student and she asked me if I could help her out. I told her of course I could because I was going to that class as well. When we got inside she whispered to me, “I’m kind of nervous because I don’t know anybody at this school and I said “You do now.”We’ve been friends ever since.
Today Dominique stands at about 5’7”; she has medium length brown hair, stopping just at her shoulders. Some people would call her chubby but I’d say she’s the average weight for her age and height; she has this caramel skin tone that she applies make-up to every chance she gets, and you’ll never catch her without a set of perfectly manicured nails and toes and the latest designer hand bag. She’s a very goofy person, she laughs at just about everything and when she does, you see about a hundred white perfectly straight teeth – so bright, you almost need sunglasses when you look at her. When she laughs, her eyes grow wide, glowing hazel brown. Dominique likes to dress very different. She’s the type of person that’s very into the different stuff like vintage clothing. She’s a dare devil and she’s very unpredictable. Sometimes she’ll wear a t-shirt and some jeans or a fancy dress with red lipstick and eye shadow. She must have three closets full of clothes and shoes, because I hardly ever see her wear the same outfit twice. She has almost every shoe in every color that u can think of.
Over the years of getting to know her I have learned that she is very creative, determined, intelligent, generous, passionate about everything she does, and very open-minded. The one thing that stands out about Dominique the most is her passion for creativity in fashion. The reason I say this is

She is portrayed as an old lady who has too much pride and wants to be in the know of every tiny piece of gossip in town. In the beginning of the story, it gives the readers the impression that she was a sweet old lady who takes much pride in her rose bush and enjoys the town gossip too much. Ms. Strangeworth comes off as prideful, intrusive and blunt. Ms. Strangeworth was portrayed as prideful throughout the story when she took so much pride in her rose bush which had been passed down to her by her family. She explained to everyone, including tourists who just pass through the town about how she inherited this magnificent rose bush and the first house ever built on Pleasant Street by her grandfather. She believed that she deserved much appreciation, honor and gratitude from the people of the small town because of her grandfather. Her when the town decided to put up a statue of Ethan Allen instead of her grandfather, she was disappointed and muttered “ but it should have been a statue of my grandfather. There wouldn’t be a town here at all if it hadn’t been for my grandfather and the lumber mill.” This shows the readers that she believed that the town was her’s and no one else’s. In the text, it claims that Ms. Strangeworth would not give out or share her flowers with anyone else because she believed that the roses belonged within her household. “.. it bothered Ms. Strangeworth to think of people wanting to carry them away, to take them into strange towns, and down strange streets.” Even when people requested for her beautiful roses for the town’s church, she would refuse. “When the new minister came, and the ladies were gathering flowers to decorate the church, Miss Strangeworth sent over a great basket of gladioli.” This tells us that she is very protective of her roses and would not even spare a…

As a prerequisite for our Environmental Justice class, our group was responsible for putting together a Word Cloud presentation based on the readings we have covered in class. I was assigned the Laura Pulido essay, “Geographies of Race and Ethnicity 1: White Supremacy VS. White Privilege in Environmental Racism Research”. Guided by the Critical Thinking Method, I was able to clearly understand the reading. The critical thinking method was a helpful source to me not only because it helped me understand clearly, but because it helped me to identified Pulido’s concerns. I was able to identified Pulido’s target, also I was able to identify the why behind of her concerns, as well as what mattered most to Pulido and I. What matter most to me as a…

The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, “To kill a mockingbird” takes readers to the roots of human behavior. Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving “To Kill a mockingbird” revolves around the finch family, a family in which the father Atticus has raised his two kids Jem and Scout in a way to see beyond the crippling power of racism, and into the eyes of a respectable man. But when Atticus is appointed to defend a black man, Tom Robinson, who has been charged with rape of a white woman, the town begins to lose its composure, and sides both against tradition, and with it. It is during this time, that the character Dolphus Raymond emerges. Dolphus is unlike any other member in the community; he believes colored folk should be both respected, and loved. He fell in love with a black woman, married her, and has forever lost respect from many citizens of Maycomb County. But it is also in this image that he gained a lot of respect, not only by Atticus, but from many of the other “Respectable White men”. A man who doesn’t care about his image, Dolphus Raymond is respectable, misleading, and is the very picture of the statement “Don’t judge a book from its cover”.…

Over the years that I’ve been at Burdick, I’ve gained many great friends, but I also lost a few. Only a few selective of them, I tell my secrets to. For example, Kaiden, Coreena, Dakota, Elysium, Joelle, Jose, and Isaiah. They’re the greatest friends anyone could ask for and have. They’re loyal, truthful, understanding, funny, witty, sarcastic, and just plain awesome. I have them to thank for making ordinary moments, extraordinary. They’re always there when I want to hang out or vent out my feelings. They put in that extra effort to understand me for who I am, not caring the slightest bit about my flaws and imperfections. And if I ever need to shed some tears, I know that at least one of them will be there to comfort me. There are times where…

My best friend Sedona Love taught me something this year, something I would never have had seen with my own two eyes until she showed me. She taught me that when I am having trouble at home or life isn’t treating me so well, that she will always be there to listen and give their best input. She may sometimes be sarcastic, silly, goofy, mean, crazy, sometimes plain out embarrassing, and even care too much, but in the long run she is always going to be there to listen and not talk, hear without judging, and be there with nothing in return. In class sometimes she can be pretty critical but I know that’s just how our relationship works. I may get called silly, stupid, a dumb blonde, an idiot, but when I need my best friend the most I know that she will be there for me. When I needed a shoulder to cry on or when I needed a hug the most she was always there for me, when I felt there was no sense in life she showed me there was way more to life than I thought. A couple of weeks ago I went into severe anaphylactic shock and she was right there, she brought me my backpack and the things I needed most at the time. She stood up for me when my so called friends were talking behind my back not really knowing what was going on. She was also the only one who cared enough to call me and see how I was doing, she put everything aside just so she could make sure that I was okay. Not…

I was in the sixth grade when I first met my best friend Jamilex. Jamilex and I were really close, we did everything together; our homework, went to the movies, hung out in the park, and often went her house where we had conversations about guys. We tried to spend time together as often as possible, because we didn't see each other during school hours since she attended a different junior High school. We saw each other every day after school to do homework together. I never thought I would finally meet a true friend but you know what they say, "Never say Never". I tried to do my best to keep her happy and be there for her when she needed a shoulder to cry on. Jamilex and I were so different but at the same time so alike. Her favorite color…
