INTRODUCTION
This S.B.A (school based assessment) contains factual information on 17th century Port
Royal. It will inform the reader about how Port Royal gained its wealth and infamous reputation.
It contains information on Port Royal’s economy. This project will inform on the livestyle of the residents of Port Royal during the 17th century and how trading was conducted. It will tell how the buccaneers contributed to Port Royals economy.
RATIONALE
In the 17th century Port Royal was considered the richest and the wickedest city in the world for numerous amounts of reasons. In this project the candidate seeks to explore the reasons why Port Royal is considered the richest and the wickedest city in the 17th century.
The candidate wants to find out what was the lifestyle of the residents of Port Royal during the 17th century, also what their was livelihood like. To find out how Port Royal acquired its wealth and its infamous reputation. The researcher would like to know what acts of evil the inhabitants of Port Royal were engaged in which gave Port Royal its sinful reputation.
CHAPTER 1-THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PORT ROYAL
Geography
Port Royal lies on a Palisades spit extending from off the coast of Kingston. This spit was created by sediments carried by rivers from the hills surrounding Kingston. This deposition of sediments formed some cays. Over time the Palisades spit became an unbroken piece of land.
Due to the fact that the Palisades spit was made of these relatively loose materials it was susceptible to natural disasters. Persons presently believe that the reason why the land, made from the deposition of sediments, sunk during the 1692 earthquake was because the earthquake followed an existing fault line.

Two years after the arrival of the English they built a small fort, Fort Cromwell, which constituted of 32 guns. The Fort had the plan “a
