Entrepreneurship: Hardship, Hustle, and Heart
The book The Barefoot Spirit: How Hardship, Hustle, and Heart Built America’s #1 Wine Brand by Michael and Bonnie was very influential to me. In the back of my mind I have always thought about pursuing the career of being an entrepreneur. The idea of working for yourself instead of taking orders from a higher authority figure, especially one which you feel you are more experience or could do a better job, has always intrigued me. Personally for me I think with the right motivation, work ethic, and opportunity being an entrepreneur is not only a possibility but a reality. I would say after reading The Barefoot Spirit, an act of collaboration or a way for Michael and Bonnie to tell what they learned and how they learned it, I would say I am leading more towards being an entrepreneur now than before. This is because Michael and Bonnie had little to none experience, knowledge, and money but were still able to take an opportunity, having 18,000 boxes of extra wine bottles, and creating a nation-wide brand name.
Life is about finding the right opportunities and taking them opportunities, ideas, thoughts, projects, without being afraid of failure and turning them into success, both in a big and small scale. Everyday opportunities arise leading you to be successful or unsuccessful and in the end it’s what you do with these opportunities. Some of these opportunities are small; doing homework, going to work, interacting with new people, while other opportunities are much bigger; having 18,000 boxes of wine, investing money in a new business, buying real-estate, ect.
After reading this book I would say that is one thing that Michael and Bonnie taught me was to seize the right opportunity and not be afraid of failure. Along the way to success everyone has numerous mistakes and failure but it’s how you learn from your mistakes. Michael said something that I thought was very interesting and important about making mistake.
