The purpose of Army Regulation 670-1 as stated in chapter 1 paragraph 1-1 is as follows. “This regulation prescribes the authorization for wear, composition, and classification of uniforms, and the occasions for wearing all personal, (clothing bag issue), optional, and commonly worn organizational Army uniforms. It also prescribes the awards, insignia, and accouterments authorized for wear on the uniform, and how these items are worn. General information is also provided on the authorized material, design, and uniform quality control system.” The book answer to the purpose of the regulation only goes so far. If you look further into the regulation it states that the United States Army is a uniformed service that is judged, in part, by the way a soldier wears their uniform. This being said, if a soldier wears their uniform in a manner which is not clean and neat in appearance, and portrays the army poorly, the members of the United States Army would be viewed in a poor and undisciplined manner. Whereas if the members of the United States Army hold themselves to a higher standard, and maintain a neat and clean appearance, the members of the uniformed service will be viewed by the outside world as an organization which personifies what discipline is supposed to be. While we are on the subject of discipline, I think it would be good to explore it and it’s relation to the importance of Army Regulation 670-1. Discipline is one of the cornerstones of the United States Army. Discipline can set you above and beyond everyone else, and it can help you excel in everything you do. What is…

This entails ironing on carefully measured creases into the front and back of the working blues shirt, keeping our leather shoes gleaming and making sure that the dirt on the edges is cleaned off, and getting haircuts when needed. Although this helps plebes look clean and squared away, giving the effort to maintain a good-looking uniform also ensures that we “maintain the integrity of our uniforms”, as Admiral McRaven discussed. The working blues, SDB’s, and other uniforms we wear are more than just clothing – they are representations of the Navy. Every time we dress in our uniforms, we are serving as physical embodiments of the Navy, including its pride, heritage, and the sailors and Marines that strive to keep our nation secure. Thus, plebes and upperclassmen alike must be willing to maintain clean and well-kept uniforms not only to make ourselves look tidy, but to also represent the greater whole, or in this case, the United States…

The best way to approach the situation is for the organization to partner up with a uniform company and create a reasonable and affordable contract to manufacture uniforms and sell them at reasonable prices that the staff can afford. Initially the company may have to provide two or three pairs of uniforms to each staff member and from then on, the staff will be responsible for buying their own. This will make the changing process much easier, because one of the reasons that staff members will come up with to resist the change, will be that they do not have extra money in their budgets to buy new uniforms when they already have plenty of…

There is another excellent example of how uniforms influence power and dehumanisation in the prison at Abu Graib. The incident at Abu Ghraib has left a black mark on America’s history but also provides an excellent subject to write about. The incident at Abu Ghraib happened from 2003-2004. The prisoners at Abu Ghraib were tortured and degraded until they managed to get information out of them, this included stripping them naked and piling them on top of each other, putting a leash on them and pulling them around the prison and forcing them to masturbate. The people that we know did this were, Lynndie England and Charles Graner who was Lynndie’s lover “Some residents said Pte England was a model soldier who only did what she was told and must have been acting on commands from above.” This was said in a report from the BBC on the Baghdad prison, this shows that the soldiers…

In my life I have been a part of a few bureaucracies, now that I have joined the Army. In my opinion, I am in one of the world’s largest bureaucracies. Although, I don’t always believe that America’s views are always in the best interest, or of the people of this country, I do have to follow them and respect them. The military is ruled by office as well as the country. In the military, there are a lot of formal and informal normalities. For example, wearing of certain uniforms during certain functions, such as the Military Ball. Uniforms also worn for other officials such as the President of the United States, congressmen and women, as well as foreign political figures. No one role applies to one single solider; we all have transferable skills that are used throughout the army and the civilian world. As you get experience and become an expert in your job, your role moves up to higher command position. Experts have authority in the military; they are trained to take the task to lead, as well as making sure the job is done correctly. There are many informal norms as well in how America grooms the soldiers, to make them better in their classifications. In the military there are certain membership criteria that allow some members to join, but not others. Based on part of the explicit criteria of membership, that is whether the person qualifies to belong according to the groups’ norms. Although membership in a military unit, group of coworkers, or a pick up football team are all too some degree voluntary in comparison to membership to a fraternity, sorority, or gang. The first three depend nevertheless on a process in which candidates are evaluated and judged acceptable or unacceptable. Membership criteria differ from group to group, and they change overtime within a particular groups or organizations. The differences depend on the relative importance of ascribed versus acquired states of candidates. The criteria used in the…
The wear and appearance of soldiers in the United States Army are while in uniform should be neat. There should be no excess “things” in a person’s pocket but it should lie down flat. The person wearing the uniform should look neat and concise not drawing attention to themselves. Soldiers should look like a unit or group with everyone blending in not standing out because they look different. In the army it’s important to be part of a team and like teams that play basketball, football, soccer, lacrosse, softball, baseball, wrestling, and even chess teams. It’s important to wear the same thing. It shows unity and togetherness. This is important in the armed forces especially because of what they do. In the army, marines, navy, and air force soldiers are called upon to fight in the battle field. If soldiers cannot show unity by doing a simple basic thing of wearing the same uniform alike how anyone could expect them to fight and win a nation’s battle. This is why the army has proved a guideline of regulations for soldiers in the United States Army to wear and abide by. This regulation is army regulation six hundred dash one which covers the dress and appearance of army uniforms in any given situation. As a female in the United States Army have recently become acquainted with Army Regulation six hundred dash one by the urgings of my sergeants. In this army regulation I found out about the grooming practices allowed for females in the United States Army and what is out of regulation or what is commonly thought to be out of regulation. I hope that this will square me away as a private in the Army of the United States of America. Females and males cannot have faddishly shaved scalps with designs on them. It is not allowed for a female to have excess bulk in her hair even if this is her natural fullness. She would have to have some of the bulk removed so she would not look unkempt or unprofessional. The Army is all about have high standards and adhering to those standards.…
